I wonder if this guy's job is to "teach" us about college football. This is what you do on third down, etc. I personally do not like the PA guy, but think it could be ok if he changed a couple of things. First, tell the fans to get loud as the offense breaks the huddle, not when the ref sets the ball. All the fans were done "yelling" by the time the offense got to the ball. This would lead to my second suggestion, only tell us once. Tell us it's third down and to make some noise. If that doesn't work, don't yell at us again. Thirdly, no explanations or opinions. If we "yelled" and SWT had to call a timeout, don't congratulate us. "See what a little noise can do?" We get it, but that timeout had nothing to do with noise. One last thing, quit talking over the band! I hate that.

P.S. I hate the pony up song. Especially the fact that he kept singing after he was off the field. If we have to listen to it, there needs to be a rule. Once the song is over, his microphone gets cut off. And check the speakers before the game so there isn't feedback. I'm done now

"Actually it turned out pretty well. I'd make that trade again. 5 yrs of
dominance, a couple of yrs off, 5 yrs of dominance....couple of yrs
off.....sounds pretty good relative to the last 20."

Hey, if we turned ourselves in, and said we wouldn't do it again, we
might not have to take the couple years off.

Oh wait, that's only for the BCS teams.

While it is not a style I prefer, what really makes me nuts is his total inability to spot the ball. Somebody get that knucklehead a spotter. I think he called correct distance about twice all night.

Sorry guys, but I enjoyed the PA Announcer. He will calm down as the games go by. He needs to find his range of work. However, if you noticed, and from the number that left at halftime, maybe you did not, most of the student section reacted to his pleas. It is the first time in a long time I have seen the student section there for the 2nd half (many of them) and definitely the first time I have seen them cheering and banging those phallic symbols since TCU in 2006. He did make some mistakes, but it was his first game.

My complaint was no other game scores given.

It's a shame we dont have Bob Tallman; The voice of the Fort Worth Stock Show and The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

I agree. THE PROBLEM is the cheerleaders are pathetic and more accessory dancers to the Band than cheerleaders. CHEER-LEADER. Lead the crowd in cheering for the football team. Half the time they are dancing for the band or turned watching the game. In some instances, the weren't on the sideline during a goal line stan or third down.

And the Band...yes, they are the hub of SMU Spirit but they are the hub of that spare donut tire. They hold onto their traditions and songs and cheers but they...all 60 of them...are the only ones who know them. The reason the "Aggie thing works (and believe me I do not want to make this argument) is that they are all in sync: band, yell leaders, and fans.

Then only way the small crowds we have will be loud is if they cheer, chant, yell, make noise somehow in unison. The Texas state Armadillos' small crowd made a lot of noise last night because the cheered together. FWMustangGirl and I, and only a few people around ever shouted on anything but close 3rd downs or knew the words to 5-4-3-2 or Pony Battle Cry. If even 15,000 people were doing that together, it would sound awesome. Our traditions don't work because they aren't properly executed.

The Fare closed a few years ago. He was a little over the top, but, he did sqeeze some noise out of the blue hairs! If he hadn't worked so hard, that place would would have been like a tomb.

I understand that it was his first game as far as presentation is concerned, but not knowing what to announce or announcing it wrong made it look like this might have been the first game he ever saw.

I asked this before: can someone tell me when it stopped being "the Hilltop" and started being "the Hill"?

Cactus Pryor is still alive. I think it was his brother, whose name i can't remember, who was such a great pa announcer for UT for many years. The brother passed away a few years ago I think.
