DL-C-OG Anthony Walker

...the Insiders lists a prospect named Anthony Walker who fits the big-guy type some of you are looking for. He is 6-3, 295 5.2 from Oklahoma City Northeast. Although he isn't widely recruited he does have offers from SMU, Iowa St and New Mexico St. Iowa St is apparently looking at him at C-OG. SMU has always had trouble recruiting the big, quick natural defensive lineman with the exception of Birdwell and Croy. We have always, since the DP, been required to recruit tall DE and LBs and gradually put them on a weight program and move them from DE to DT as they mature. I'm afraid that will likely be the case this year as well and that's why we are going after guys like Newman and Delay who have good size and can carry more weight. That information on Cofer you see on recruiting services is 5-6 months old-I've got a feeling that there must be more to the story on why Cofer isn't getting more attention? could be grades, could be he delayed taking the SAT/ACT for a qualifying score, his grades might be fine but he has a "core" problem, could be his injury was more severe than thought. But for a guy with his size to fall off the recruiting map in a down year for defensive lineman in Texas is su****ious. I mean how many guys are are reportedly 6-4,300 and reportedly run a 5.0. Those numbers alone should attract the attention of the recruiting services. I could be wrong-just conjecture but I've seen this pattern many times before. I've got an inquiry on Cofer to the editors of Big 12 Recruiting and I'll post their response.

Thanks for your insight, Stallion. And you make good points about Cofer - you'd think every coach in the regiuon, if not the state, would be all over the kid. Maybe he's Gilmore Part 2 -- the leg injury is bad enough that he's fallen off other schools' wish lists, and we can grab him and help him recover.

Looking forward to your response from the Big 12 folks.

And welcome to this site - nice to have you aboard.

Are you the same Stallion who appeared on that other site? If so, I value your opinions on recruiting a lot - you clearly do a lot of research on the subject. Which leads to three questions:

Of the guys remaining, who would you like to see SMU get?

How many of them do you think we can land?

How nervous should we be about losing Massey to UT?

I just saw a website that said Cedric Cofer has no offers yet.
What's up with that? I thought this kid was supposed to be the next Jerry Ball.
Anyone know the scoop?
I really shouldn't drink and type.
