Chances are he was coming back from a game in Albuquerque or Colorado Springs perhaps, but then perhaps not...mrydel does live in Arkansas which is accessable thru OK. ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Alright give me a break. It was over 35 years ago. It was a little nothing town almost exactly halfway between Lubbock and Dallas. The car would barely move. It was my father's car and when I called him I told him the mechanic wanted to keep it because I had blown a rod and it would take a few days to get the parts and several hundred dollars to fix, he said to drive it home. I could not get over 35 miles an hour but the good news was we hit a sleet storm and no one could go any faster than that. Turns out there was a busted spring that our neighborhood mechanic fixed for $13.00. Making a long story longer, Mrs, H do not drive to Lubbock.
I will look on the map and see if I can find the correct town. ***EDIT*** The town was Seymour All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Well, I tried to cover for you...

My attempt to cover for you would have been found out eventually, I thought Muleshoe was north of Amarillo, but hell no, it is between Lubbock and Clovis NM...due west of Plainview. Duh...so much for my geography classes. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?ci ... e&state=tx SMU's first president, Robert S. It's not a bad drive, assuming you have wheels that are highway ready. I wouldn't want to break down in Seymour either. We do it for every home game from the Mid-Cities area. Will take you about 5 1/2 hours if you go the 114 route, which is what I recommend.
Better reserve a hotel room first, there won't be many left at this late date. Lot's of great tailgating, mostly west and north of the stadium. You'll find plenty of Tech fans who will fix you up with free food and drinks.
just ignore those to the left and the right of the above mentioned fans who will tell you "SMU sucks," will hold signs saying "honk if SMU sucks" which will be displayed on the news, will have a throng of fans chanting "F*** u SMU" as you walk by, and yeah...should be ok.
Won't be anything like that going on, but continue on in your delusions if it makes you happy. I've seen even A&M or UT fans welcomed at our tailgates; we certainly don't get excited enough about SMU to make signs.
Well, there was the last time I was there two years ago. I'll let you know Saturday night or Sunday if there is this time. As for the "newscast" referenced above, such a sign and chant was seen on the Lubbock news that was rebroadcast around midnight once I got back to the hotel. Oh, and the FUSMU was particularly prevalent inside the stadium during the playing of the SMU alma mater, when the stadium was quiet except for the band and the chant.
I just booked a hotel....
2 hotels sold out while I was trying to book a room. 12 were already sold out Hurry if you want a room in Lubbock I think there was one hotel left with availability Pony Prayer: "Dear Lord, Be my wings and lift me to new hieghts, be my shield and protect me from harm" Amen
This is the second thread today where a pony fan has no clue of Texas geopgraphy. ![]() ![]() You can take I20 West from Dallas to Sweetwater and be on a major US highway that is far from the middle of nowhere. Then cut up to Lubbock on State HW 84 North. Stay on that road, which will turn into Qve Q in Lubbock. Take a left on 4th street and you'll see the stadium in a couple of blocks. If you get lost following those directions, you should just give SMU back your sheepskin and apologize to your pony family. ![]() That trip takes 5:30 or so, depending on how fast you drive. I live in Dallas and have season tickets and have no problem driving to and from Lubbock. If that is too complicated, take 114 West at the North side of DFW Airport and never have to change highways. That turns into 4th street and you never have to get on a different road. The towns are more sparse that way but takes about 5:15 to get there. As far as being treated well at the game, well, you tend to get treated the way you treat people in Lubbock. Which is pretty much the same the world over. Tell people you are there to enjoy a good football game and you won't have any problems. Tell people you think Lubbock sucks and Tech students are stupid like you do on this board, and of course you are going to get a negative response. ![]()
If you head north from I-20, slow the hell down at Post. Their speed limits drop but the signs are hard to see and they will give you a ticket. I've known several who were caught this way. Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.
