Congrats Blake Warren

Postby Stallion » Sun Jan 05, 2003 4:29 pm

...one of SMU's more unhearlded recruits Blake Warren from a Class 2A team made first team All-East Texas(all Classifications) as a DB according to Texas Prep X-Tra. He also put up BIG numbers on offense and he was First Team All State in 2A but that was for his offensive skills. He also was his District's Defensive Player of the year. Congrats.

Warren is listed as 5-7 and 163 lbs. He's obviously a talented player, but of a size you expect to see on a I-AA roster. Let's hope the diminutive one can contribute at SMU, but he certainly appears to be a good RS candidate to allow him time to muscle up for the collegiate game.

Why? he ain't going to get any bigger? That's a little small-but have you guys watched K-St and all their little guys. Chris Cunningham ain't much bigger. Either was Jerry LeVias. Bennett started Rolando Humphrey last year and he is reportedly 5-8. SMU has several good sized WRs and they have produced ZILCH. I have no doubt after reviewing Bennett's recruiting class that he is looking for SPEED, Then SPEED and finally SPEED. I say get him on the field and see what he can do. As Bennett said last year about SMU's offensive woes-"We ain't going to win any Track Meets with the talent we have on offense". I'd be very worried if I was one of those "good-sized" WRs who produced very little last year.

So is Warren being recruited as a WR only? I'd seen him listed elsewhere as an Athlete recruit, which I figured meant he might be a corner at SMU. Coach Bennett always has had a fondness for small CBs who can really burn it up and down the field (look at the little guys at K-State) and thought Coach Bennett might be having visions of Ro Humphrey and Blake Warren as super-fast shut-down corners after Jonas graduates.

Stallion, you have him going on offense?
