LOVE THE NEW LOOK, PF.com!
Nice upgrade, boys! Did you find some spare change between the seat cushions of the couch in Orsini's office after his last Circle of Champions meeting?
"It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."

Hate to be the party pooper, but I don't like new "design." It's too simplistic. It used to be more professional-looking.
I'm not a fan of the logo, either. It looks like someone tried to draw the SMU pony logo and gave up.
Rather than have a less-than-accurate imitation of the official logo, you would be better served by going in another direction. I know you don't want to infringe on the school's trademark, but having two similar pony logos is confusing to people who may not know the difference.
I'm sure the smart people at Ponyfans.com can make up with a great logo that stands on its own. And the web design just needs a few tweaks to make it look as good as it used to.

The PonyFans logo is the same one they have had all along. I suppose you could call it a stylized version of the SMU mustang...sort of abstract in that it doesn't connect all the lines together. Pretty cool in my opinion.Longtime wrote:Hate to be the party pooper, but I don't like new "design." It's too simplistic. It used to be more professional-looking.

What would an accurate imitation look like? If it looks like the real SMU Mustang logo that would be a copyright infringment not to mention it would imply that this site is affiliated with SMU...which it is not. It is owned by passionate SMU Mustang fans for the benefit of other passionate SMU Mustang fans.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Dear PK: Duh.
I think it's pretty obvious in my earlier post that I'm aware Ponyfans can't use the official SMU logos, nor would its owners want to.
It's just my opinion that a "stylized" version of the Mustang logo represents something less than the real thing. Why not go with a completely original logo that doesn't manipulate an official SMU trademark?
It's just another way of thinking, especially now that Ponyfans has been established as the SMU fan site. There's not really a need for a logo that so closely resembles SMU's official one to further reinforce that this is an SMU-related site.
As I said, the Ponyfans owners are smart enough and creative enough to come up something with more original, something that would be associated with the site itself. Perhaps at some point they will. Until then, I'll live.
