Weather in Lubbock

I guess they don't teach geography at SMU.

Guess they don't teach Red Raiders how to check the forecast which is rain for the next week.

And by the way, remnants of a hurricane are generally felt for many states beyond the actual hit.

The only thing pleasant about Lubbock is leaving it.

HA HA, the forcast is for scattered rain or chance of rain. We had the same forcast 2 weeks ago for the Eastern Washington game. It didn't rain 2 weeks ago, despite the forcast for it just the day before. It does rain in Lubbock, just not all that often. Just because people forcast rain 4 days in advance, doesn't mean it will rain that day.

The storm is 200 miles wide? Lubbock is over 600 miles from where it is supposed to hit. Did you guys forget Texas is a big state? Again, it would have to be a HUGE hurricane for Lubbock to feel any REAL effects from it.

Well, Hurricanes usually continue to move inward as other kinds of storm systems once they make landfall. This is why there where flight delays in Chicago due to the after effects of Gustav. Chicago, like Lubbock, is hundreds of miles from where the eye made (or will make) landfall.

Much flooding and tornados from Gustav in all of Arkansas. Maybe RHS is not smart enough to know that hurricanes move. Even after downgraded on land they still can do much damage whether it is in Lubbock, Seymour, or Muleshoe.

It just depends on which way it turns when it hits land and most projections right now have it heading towards Lubbock. As I said before I would think rain with 30MPH or so wind.

I guess they don't teach geography at SMU. It would have to be a hurricane a lot bigger than Katrina to feel any real affects that far west.

The weather will be great. Instead of the sticky nights you enjoy in Dallas, you will enjoy a cool breeze in Jones. Ford = hot, sticky, miserable September games. Jones = cool, pleasant September games.

Yeah, they are always changing the forcasts as the days get closer. Or is that more sarcasm I missed?

Just a FYI for all you people who never get west of the Fair Grounds, here is a link to an article talking about Lubbock expecting 1000 Hurricane Ike evacuaees. So a heads up on hotels if you are staying. Lubbock is going through a lot of growth and construction where workers are taking some hotel rooms already. So if you want a room, you should make reservations if you haven't already.

In case you missed the point of the link, Lubbock is a safe haven from the hurricane because it is too far inland.

If Hurricane Ike does hit the Texas coast as a Catagory 3, as predicted, I would call that a big hurricane.

Bring rain gear and don't worry about it. I can't remember the last time rain was a problem at a football game in Lubbock, and I've been a season ticket holder since 2002, been attending games since 1969.

I believe the game is scheduled to be televised by FSSW. If so, they aren't changing the game time.

I remember a game out there in the mid 60s. A thunderstorm rolled over the stadium dropping good sized hail and lots of rain. The field looked like it had snowed. Everyone ducked under the stands except the SMU band. They stayed in their seats and played Peruna during the down pour. That was a little over the top, but then it was the SMU band. After the game, the parking lot was ankle deep in water. Did I mention that Lubbock is as flat as a pool table?

What a bunch of pansies-wanting to cancel or move a game based on a Hurricane that hits at least 700-800 miles away. Please. Nope SMU is not getting such a break-SMU will still have to show up on time-or they will be marked tardy. Lubbock residents are used to near Hurricane force winds anyway. Why do you think their woman use so much hair-spray.

Not being an avid soccer person, do they play in heavy rain as long as there is no lightening?
