Joe Sturdivant

Sturdivant has now received an offer from Ga.Tech-nobody ever said recruiting quality players would be easy. He is also still considering Fla St perhaps even as a preferred walk-on. Don't discount that possibility-apparently he has two sisters that went there and that's the school he grew up following. He is very complimentary of the national stature of the SMU Business School, but also grew up wanting to be a Navy Seal. He may want to play Baseball so that could hurt SMU. He confirmed that his SMU visit is this weekend not last weekend as his mother previously reported. BTW this Kid hasn't lost a game since 8th grade. I think he played on either 5 or 6 state championships in FB and Baseball. He still seems to be very interested in SMU even to the reporter who was from Ga Tech but he has good things to say about each school.

With the current state of the safety position at SMU, this guy seems extremely important to this class.

I went to school with Joey's dad, Paul and am proud to say we were in the same fraternity pledge class. Joey's grandfather actually pitched in the World Series as a "closer" for the Yankees for several years(along with Whitey Ford). Joey's father, Paul, was a LB/fullback and had a very aggressive spirit to his play. So, Joey's got the right pedigree.
I, along with several other friends of the Sturdivants would really like and enjoy seeing Joey in the "Red & Blue of SMU"!!!

Get in touch with his family, Stampede, and let him know how much we want him here!

Stampede...if memory serves me correct, I was president of that fraternity when you & Paul went through. E-mail me & let's bring Joe to SMU. I'm sure M. Bristol will help. Paul would be glad!

As a sweetener to get this kid in a Mustangs uniform, I'll throw in a gift wrapped baseball card of his grandfather in Yankee pinstripes bought when I was about 8 or 9. I'll keep the Whitey Ford, though.

Maybe he'll get drafted by an MLB team and we'll get a Bartel deal for him.

I hear Bartel's baseball career is over, and that he'll be put on scholarship.
Sure would be nice to get Sturdivant and still save that scholarship.
