ROSSLEY'S RANT: David and Goliath

Postby PonyPride » Thu Sep 11, 2008 12:09 am

PonyFans.com's Mick Rossley addresses what awaits the Mustangs this Saturday in Lubbock: the No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders. Texas Tech is one of the top teams in the country, and has one of the nation's most potent offenses, but while he acknowledges the Red Raiders are prohibitive favorites, he remembers a game in which his version of the Mustangs defied the odds against another heavily favored foe.

Pony fans have been expecting to loose for too long. Nacho's negative statement is interesting, but pathetic. You have in this thread a former player that knows what he's talking about. He's not guaranteeing a win, he's just opening up the possibilty that it's possible and made a good case for how that could happen.

You have to admit that deep in the cavern of every pony fans heart, there is that little feeling that 'just maybe', somehow we just might pull it off. How cool would that be.

That game against aggy in 1994 killed me. Ramon led a drive with under 2 minutes left to get us in field goal range and the kick was no good. Our version of wide left.

But the game next year was even worse where we lost 20-17 at kyle field on the last play of the game. I think I actually cried that day.

The Great Mick Rossley isn't saying we WILL win, just that it's possible. Note he compared the game to David and Goliath. He said we have to win the turnovers battle and basically conjure up a near-perfect performance. He admits that it's not likely, only that it CAN happen.

As someone who has been in a similarly daunting scenario on the practice field, I'm intrigued by his point of view. Great stuff, Mick.

If you're out there reading this, Mick, how did you and your teammates calm your nerves before the game, knowing you and your teammates were about to play a nationally ranked team who had the potential to run you over? Was it the coaches? The older guys on the team? Yoga? Meditation?

Thanks for joining the PonyFans.com staff - you and the other columnists are great.

Y'all do an outstanding job! Thanks for everything.

I just want our defense to step up and actually stop Tech once. I think I'll be happy if that happens.

If we stop Tech once, we've pretty much got the game won, right?

Great job, Mick!
