That last TD Tech was trying to score meant about as much as the TD SMU scored w/ 3:29 left. If SMU isn't going to run out the clock, why should Tech? BTW, if Leach was classless, he would have burned his final time out for one more play & tried once more. Or he wouldn't have run a sweep play that hasn't worked for us all year. Your team lost, deal with it and quit crying about it. You will never get better complainging about the other team. Fix your problems and improve.
That's ridiculous. Our guys deserved not to get shutout and I'm really glad they could score that TD. SMU didn't run out the clock because SMU was losing by some god-awful amount. Tech should have run out the clock instead of trying to score another TD (and using a timeout with 70 seconds left up by 36). Kneel on the damn ball. Run out the clock. Tech gains nothing by scoring another TD at the end of that game. You cannot justify trying to score again in that situation. It cannot be done. If I'm going to cry because we lost, it sure isn't going to be because some classless Tech pirate-wannabe tried to get in one last punch. My complaints and thoughts hold no bearing on SMU's ability to become a better football team or fix its problems. I don't hold meetings with June to discuss that weekend's game.
No. My post was sane. Your post is silly. Your team deserved not to get a shut out? Losing by 36 is that much less embarrassing than losing by 43? Losing by 36 isn't awful enough?
I don't have to justify running up the score. It is part of the game. SMU did it back in the Pony Express days against UTA, Grambling, Tulane, etc. SMU did what they had to do and stopped Tech from getting the last TD. I don't need to justify anything. My team pretty much had their way with your team Saturday night.
Tech gains the same thing by scoring another TD that SMU did. The only difference is the team you root for. Your team scores a meaningless TD late in the game and they deserve it. The team you are rooting against tries to answer the score and they are classless.
You may not hold meetings with the team, but fans attitudes reflects the university's. If your complaining about getting spanked by Tech instead of poor play, June Jones has only himself holding him accountable. There will be more games like this as the season goes on and more classless teams running up the score on poor little SMU and instead of letting your coach know that is unacceptable, you let him know it is OK because the other team is a filled will classless people. Or you can continue to think we are classless and stupid and continue getting embarrassed.
Why is Leach still out "in the middle of nowhere"? Maybe it is a good place to be. I can't believe some of you guys are still acting like Lubbock and Tech is a terrible place. You guys don't even know your own state's geogrophy. Hurricane Ike had no impact on the game. The rain Lubbock got was two days before the storm even hit the coast and Lubbock gets a gully washer like that once or twice a year. I've been to SMU's campus a lot and it is not prettier than Tech.
UCLA's Athletic Director said they couldn't afford to hire Mike Leach because of his contract with a million in bonus coming do after this year. UCLA would have to pay Leach $3 million a hear to hire him away from Tech. Leach will make close to 5 million at Tech this season and next. That is more than any other coach in the Big 12 other than Stoops and Brown.
Plus, Leach doesn't have to go somewhere else to rebuild. The D that shut down SMU & had 5 picks, all but 2 of the starters & 3 in the 2 deep will be back next year. We only lose 4 starters on O, five if Crabtree goes pro early. You saw our backup QB march down the field with ease Saturday. So our 2009 team will be as good as our 2008 team and we have 2 of the 3 Big 12 North teams in Lubbock as well as Texas A&M, who hasn't won in Lubbock since 1993, and OU, who lost the last two trips to Lubbock. The only tough road game next year is UT in Austin and the Nebraska game in Lincoln could be dangerous. The bottom line is we have as good a shot or better at winning the Big 12 South next year as we do this year. Our recruiting is getting better. We're not relying on gettng so called "diamonds in the rough". We're getting kids who can play at a very high level coming in.
That is why Mike Leach is "still stuck in the middle of nowhere." It is because he isn't stuck. It isn't in the middle of nowhere. It isn't a bad job at a career killer location. He is in a good situation, making a lot of money, and on the cusp of winning conference championships. Tech played in two January Day bowls in the last 3 years.

Leach is gone after this season. There are much better jobs out there. Money talks.

Funny that you should say that. It's well documented that tech fans are Classless Clowns. They obviously learned it from Leach, no?
I think the great Joel Myers, FSN play-by-play man on a decidingly tech-leaning telecast, said it best:
"Wow. Tech takes a timeout? With 20 seconds left? OOOOkay."

You obviously can't recognize when someone mocks your coach's post-game comments.
We're obviously going to have to agree to disagree on Leach running up the score.

I agree that the solution is to get good and get even. Remember the payback game against Houston, that may have been the sweetest post death penalty victory ever. However, in this BCS era, we all know that the day we get good, we dropped from Tech's schedule and the payback will never occur. I hope we get good and get Tech later on and make them walk funny. In the meantime, Leach is never going to change. He at least tried to run the ball in and didn't do a play action or a reverse, or a trick play. The bad news for Tech, he better hope they don't get a 4th and inches anytime this year. If we can stuff them, anyone can stuff them.

"That is why Mike Leach is "still stuck in the middle of nowhere." It is because he isn't stuck. It isn't in the middle of nowhere."
My observations about the whole game experience:
Lubbock must be the world headquarters for "balloon people".
It looked as though there were 70,000 Tech fans in the stadium, but the annnounced attendance was 53,000 or so, many fans must have occupied two spaces.
More than 50% of the fans didn't graduate from Tech, much less high school.
Going to Tech is like going to the 13th grade
If Tech is no longer accredited, how can they play in NCAA or Big Twelve?
Raider Alley really looks just like an alley
Across the street from the stadium there is a Super Cuts, every chair but one was occupied by TTU coed...I swear!
The Tech offensive line had three of the largest humans I have ever seen!
And finally, the Tech band looked like the world's largest Marachi Band...only didn't sound as good! also the flag girls, needed to wear long (and wide) pants.

Most places won't touch him. Only the kind of place that would hire Bobby Knight. The only places desperate enough to hire those guys are places that are tired of being middle of the pack year after year. Take a look at Tech's SWC championships to see how they got so fed up with being an also ran.

Actually that often repeated statement that Texas Tech hasn't won a Conference Championship since the Border Conference is incorrect. Tech is just too embarrassed to mention their 5 way tie in 1994
Football – Texas, TCU, Rice, Baylor, Texas Tech (5-way tie);

While I do think Lubbock is in the middle of nowhere, I think many schools would like to hire Leach. He is no more a character than say, Lou Holtz. He certainly has put Tech in a very competitive position in the Big Twelve, a position many very good coaches couldn't have done at Tech. Do you really believe he carries the same baggage as Knight? Maybe I have been clueless as to his antics. Explain.

There's nothing to disagree about. Leach has no class and deserves ridicule. You don't contest the Sanders TD catch when you're up 43 points, call a timeout so that you can try to run up the score even more, and then act like after the game that your team was shortchanged by a very, very fair CUSA referee staff. Unbelievable behavior by a class A jerk.

Its "unbelievable" that you would call something so relatively harmless "unbelievable". But then again you don't know football never have and never will.

Come on you asked the question 15 times in one thread last week. Genuis. 8 Ints in 6 Quarters against D1A Competition. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leach's behavior during the game and the comments made on TV afterward were an embarrassment, plain and simple. Leach acted like the bully AND played the victim, something I've never seen/heard before. That's double lame.
