Stallion wrote:Its no surprise that Martin has not performed well in this offense. I gave a Senior 4 year starter a 5 for mediocre BEFORE the season. He does not have the necessary acceleration and quickness to be effective in this particular offense. I really have little doubt that if you lined him up 8 yards back in the I Formation he could be a 1,000 yard rusher. He's got speed (Ponyfans have assured me its in the sub 4.5 range on several occasions) and strength just not quick acceleration. This shouldn't have come as any surprise to anyone watching his running style. Certain styles fit certain offenses-even Eric Dickerson would underperform in this offense or the Pistol because he like Martin are long striders. No reason to beat the kid in the ground when the offense changed-he didn't change. And this isn't a shot at June Jones who obviously is going to stick with the Run and Shoot. There's a college football writer at the DMN who wrote just last week that Martin was the most misused player in Texas-this is what he was talking about.
Did you really compare DM to ED  and he might not have the skill set to be a productive "running" back in this offense, but i think the only reason he is back there is for blocking purposes

Without question I was-because I had already started counting to 3 with great recruiting classes before success appeared on the field . Ron Meyer didn't turn it around overnite showed steady improvement which I think was 3-8(Count 1) , 4-7(Count 2), 4-6-1(Count 3), 8-3(Count 4-Bowl), 10-1(Count 5-Championship), 10-0-1(Championship).

I made that point first on this board and got some ridicule from you.

BTW, DeMyron, though only a 2 star, got offered by A&M (who wanted him as a fullback), Baylor, and TCU. You made the point then that you cared more about his offers than the ranking.

The comparison begins and ends with the surface traits.
I don't believe that Martin had Dickerson potential.

But then again, given that Martin admits to taking plays off, I guess we'll never know.

The injury against NTSU could have had something to do with it, but I am going with the taser incident with Dallas' finest.

No, back when Clements was governor, it was actually a state felony to tackle Dickerson.

The only player I've ever seen that reminded me of Eric, was Adrian Petterson, but even this great player has a different style.
