From the TCU Daily Skiff: "Frogs Be Ready To Fight..."How did we get a homer in their paper?
http://media.www.tcudailyskiff.com/media/storage/paper792/news/2008/09/19/Sports/Frogs.Be.Ready.To.Fight.Anything.Can.Happen.Between.Rivalries-3440189.shtml Frogs, be ready to fight; anything can happen between rivalries Zack Wehner Issue date: 9/19/08 Section: Sports PrintEmail Article Tools Page 1 of 1 TCU may be favored by more than three touchdowns in this upcoming DFW Duel, but all of the pressure to win is still on the Horned Frogs. The Mustangs have absolutely nothing to lose. They have already lost two out of three games and will be hungry for a victory after a big loss to Texas Tech. Furthermore, this is a rivalry game. Anything can happen when rivals meet and SMU has home field advantage. It may not count for as much as normal since TCU fans will flock from Fort Worth to Gerald J. Ford Stadium, but the psychological affect on players could be enough to keep the game close. Conversely, TCU has everything to lose. TCU has a perfect record, a top-30 ranking and aspirations for a conference championship and bowl victory. A loss to SMU would ruin the Horned Frog's ranking and record (not to mention make TCU look less appealing when it comes time to hand out bowl bids). For all these reasons, Horned Frog fans should be at the least apprehensive about the negative results that could stem from this game. In reality, TCU has a much better statistical chance of winning the Saturday night game. But statistics do not count for much during a rivalry game. Take a look at the football game three years ago or even the basketball game last year. When SMU rebuilds its program, the rivalry will be renewed and become much more passionate. The rivalry still exists, but it could become much more relevant if both teams are ranked and a loss would devastate either team. In the end, if SMU loses, SMU students will not really care about the loss. There are better things to do in Dallas to occupy time. Now in Fort Worth, I understand why TCU fans and students would never leave a game. Do not call it school spirit. Just admit there is absolutely nothing better to do in Fort Worth. You can only go cow tipping so many times. Besides a better location, SMU has many advantages. The Mustangs' team colors and uniforms are significantly better. SMU just redesigned its uniforms with a throwback to the classic jerseys from the 1980s. On the other hand, TCU's jerseys could easily be the worst uniforms in the NCAA. It is possible that a color-blind clown picked the colors. I am going out on a limb and predicting SMU wins the game, the actual football game. Even if SMU does not win the actual game, SMU fans will be able to sleep at night comforted by the fact that SMU is still better than TCU. Frankly, it will not be the first game, or last, that the Mustangs will lose this season. However, if TCU loses, will the Horned Frog faithful be able to live with the fact that they just lost to a team that was 1-11 last season? Zack Wehner is the sports editor for the SMU Daily Campus. pffffffffffft - I see the ScrewUp Fairy has visited us again.
That's funny.
![]() But he's also right. A winless TCU team bumped SMU out of a bowl berth several years ago, and just a couple of years ago we beat a ranked TCU team. Plus we always play them tough. A couple of my froggie friends have even said, perhaps a bit graciously, that we deserved to win last year. You never know when the skillet is up for grabs. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. Re: From the TCU Daily Skiff: "Frogs Be Ready To Fight..."
The article was written by Zack Wehner, the sports editor for the SMU Daily Campus. They probably printed it in their paper to get their troops riled up for the game. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: From the TCU Daily Skiff: "Frogs Be Ready To Fight..."The Skiff and the Campus exchanged columns by the opposing sports editors this week. The TCU column in the Campus is here: http://media.www.smudailycampus.com/media/storage/paper949/news/2008/09/19/Sports/Column.Smu.A.Bye.Week.For.Tcu-3441000.shtml. Mr. Wehner's effort is just sad. City smack talk? School colors smack talk? He can't win even on those non-football points. Dallas better than Fort Worth? Like saying LA is better than San Diego. Nobody who's lived both places would agree. Dallas is plastic and vinyl. Fort Worth is leather and wood. Dallas is style. Fort Worth is substance. Red and blue better team colors? Only if you want to be just another anonymous clone who defaults to red or blue (or both) in their color scheme. College football is awash in red and blue. More than 60% of teams use these colors. How much imagination does that take? These are the colors to pick when you look at the faceless horde and your brain just screams "Wannabe!" ![]() These Frogs have horns!

Easy killer... get defensive much? pffffffffffft - I see the ScrewUp Fairy has visited us again.
Re: From the TCU Daily Skiff: "Frogs Be Ready To Fight..."
Deep, WTF? Trying to use LA and San Diego as an analogy between Dallas and Fort Worth requires similarities between Dallas & LA, and Fort Worth & San Diego. There aren't any, dude. At least not any that would allow you to do that dumba$$ comparison. C'mon. You sound like you are interviewing to write for the TCU student newspaper. TCU is SMU's b-tch, and the sooner you pussbags figure that out, the easier it'll be on everyone. Here's one for you, DP... ![]() ...but be safe on the drive over and enjoy the Blvd. At least you get to go to the game. I am coaching soccer for my 9 year old. But you know, he will remember my being with him more than I will remember not going to the SMU/TCU game. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." Re: From the TCU Daily Skiff: "Frogs Be Ready To Fight..."
Like hell. I've lived in both, and I got out of Fort Worthless as fast as I could. I'm in Plano now, but at least I can feel Dallas in the air, and I can't imagine living anywhere other than Dallas, or at least in the Dallas area. Dallas is a great city with more to offer in a single city block than Fort Worthless has in its whole city. A place that touts "the world's biggest honky-tonk" as a tourist attraction can not be confused with anything of "substance." FW is like Lubbock with a slightly taller skyline. Dallas, on the other hand is what's called a "city." Look it up, Frogs. How many are red and blue? Us? Ole Miss? And .... ???? Your purple, on the other hand - an obvious attempt to combine our red and blue - can be found at Northwestern, at Washington, at Kansas State. But even overlooking the numbers, nobody has the look we have, whether it's the architecture on our campus or the classic look of the uniforms (thank god the white helmet is back). I've been to costume parties that never have had anyone who looks as ridiculous as that stuffed lizard that roams the sideline in Amon Carter Memorial Dump. The purple color on the uniforms just screams "JUNIOR HIGH!"? And I've thrown up things after a 10-hour drinking binge that look better than the Frog High campus.

eww - dallas suburbs...gross
Here is the text of the TCU sports ed article. I think both their smack is weak
Column: SMU a bye week for TCU Billy Wessels, Columnist When this season's football schedule was finalized on April 1, I was excited for several reasons. First I saw the game against Big 12-powerhouse Oklahoma and was already getting pumped to go to Norman, Okla. But what was even better was the bye week we have before that. Well, it's not exactly a bye week, but it's a road game less than an hour away and against an inferior team. I am of course talking about the SMU Mustangs. It's time for the annual State Farm DFW Duel Battle for the Iron Skillet. Does this rivalry really need a sponsorship? Two teams are playing for the right to keep a large iron cooking utensil in their trophy room. Plus, what insurance company would really want to sponsor the slaughter we are going to see Saturday? The Mustangs have a total of 133 rushing yards. We rushed for 233 yards in one game last Saturday against the Cardinal. How can you maintain possession of the ball, keep the clock moving and plan on winning games when you rush for 44.3 yards per game? You can't. That's why SMU has just one win on the season and that was at home against Texas State. The Mustangs still gave up 36 points to a team that isn't even Division 1. The other two games you gave up 56 to Rice, and somehow improved to just 43 points allowed against a Texas Tech offense that is actually pretty good. But in that "improved" defensive showing, SMU could only put up seven points. You need to get things clicking at the same time. How can you expect to hold TCU to under 36 points and somehow muster more points in the same game against the No. 2 total defense in the nation? I don't think the Mustangs can. But if there is one thing SMU has going for them it's history. The last time TCU had SMU and Oklahoma on the same schedule, the Mustangs handed the Horned Frogs their only loss of the season. And this time TCU could have to worry about overlooking the terrible Mustangs on the way to facing the No. 2 team in the nation. Still, SMU has to move and hang on to the ball against a defense that is allowing 178 yards a game with a mediocre offense. And stop an offense that is averaging 398 yards per game. I don't even want to talk about the difference in special teams. TCU has a return man who ranks in the top 20 in the nation, while SMU's gamechanger is the punter. And he should get several opportunities to pad his punting stats in this game. June Jones' offense might have worked out in Hawaii, until his team faced an SEC team, but that was solely because he had the players around him that could run that offense. This SMU team isn't there yet, but the roster is pretty sophomore heavy. Maybe next year's rivalry game will be better, but this year's matchup should be a landslide.
