FLINGIN’ AROUND WITH FLANIGAN: BLM will bounce backRamon Flanigan is back for more, reminding PonyFans this week that even he  the the record-setting pilot of the Run-and-Shoot in the early 1990s  had days like the one Bo Levi Mitchell experienced in Lubbock. Flanigan shares his insights on how he shook off a sub-par performance ... and based on how many times his name appears in the record books, it apparently worked.

Great article. I will sleep much better tonight. Thanks Ramon and go Ponies. See all of you on the Blvd.
Thanks Ramon for the reality check! Brings things back into perspective. I actually thought we had a pretty good defensive showing against TTech, and our OLine continues to impress. I also think our D is more effective against the run, so TCU's offensive strength will be playing into our defensive strength.
If BLM will make sure of his throws before letting them go, I think we can hang in there with TCU. TCU's defense is superb, so let's not throw balls up for grabs against those guys. And hopefully he'll continue to get rid of the ball quickly and keep the froggies off balance. Looking forward to another beautiful evening at Ford. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I don't know if it materially changes anything. He's still a freshman, and Jones is still wedded to using him. I hope that Flanigan is correct and that his memory and learning curve are very short.
I am thinking about what was said about JWill when they played him as a redshirt freshman. I know that it's different. One year can make a big difference in maturity. But I know that it wasn't until SMU was 5 games into the season before Willis truly had a groove. So, if BLM is ahead of the curve, this game will be telling where that's concerned, regardless of win or loss. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." I've always thought so. The guy was the most entertaining QB I've ever seen and, although he probably didn't mean to be, was the cause of a couple of interesting interchanges I had with Arkansas fans that day he went down on the first play of the game at the Cotton Bowl. (I'm much more level headed now and would never resort to fisticuffs with an opposing fan -- even one with a belly full of whiskey and wearing a plastic pig hat).
Wow. That's weird. I almost spent a night in County for getting into it with a 5' 4" toothless pot-bellied redneck with a John Deere hat and an Arkansas t-shirt who spit tobacco on me as he was screaming. Didn't get to fisticuffs, but the only reason it didn't was because I shut up when the officer told us to pipe down, and he told him to "...kiss my Razorback [deleted]...." For as unwise as I might have been, he was moreso. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
Here's my story. A few minutes after the Ramon injury, the Arkansas crowd continued to taunt all SMU fans who sat in their section, but I remained silent and gentlemanly despite their behavior. But as I stood up to get a Coke or hotdog or something this guy a few rows above me yells, "You aren't leaving now, are you little pony! We took out your quarterback, we can take you out too!" Something snapped in me and I climbed the several rows of seats between us and to his shock proceeded to modify his opinion in a physical manner. Though I regret the violence, I do still take a small amount of pleasure from the memory. Those Arkansas fans were the most obnoxious group of human beings I have ever encounted.
Do Arkansas & Texas Tech play each other anytime soon? I might just attend that game to see which team's fans are the most obnoxious. ![]()
Bet he never did that again, though. Behavior modified. ![]() "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
I once attended a Razorback game between UNLV and the beloved Razorbacks. I couldn't tell which team wanted to loss it more. Both were terrible. Well, having no particular emotion in the game, I proceeded to raze both teams equally. Just before half, as I was yelling out a few coaching pointers to Houston Nutt, I over heard one of the two overall wearing hicks behind me say, "Naw, leave him alone, he's too big." Now in the second half, I made a cut about how the beloved Razorbacks held UNLV out of field goal range by tackling the UNLV fullback at the Beloved Razorbacks' 2 yard-line. Keep in mind the fullback just ran 96 yards to get it to the 2. The beloved Razorbacks held (well, UNLV sucked so bad maybe it wasn't the Beloved Razorbacks but UNLV ineptitude). The field goal kicker missed the field goal and the two hicks behind me started patting me on the back and telling me how I called that one.
I have never had to justify my opinions with any physical persuasion thank goodness but there are times it might have been well worth it. I will admit, after Leach tried to run up the score at Ford late in the game, I was ready to unload on any TTU fan that popped off. None did in my presents thus saving me unendurable shame for losing control and saving some TTU fan his teeth.
