Last year we were within a touchdown in 6 of our losses was it? And we went to overtime twice. We lost to tcu at tcu 21-7. Our offense is putting up a lot less yards than last year. I feel like we payed 2 mil year for just an offensive coordinator...

yes...we were more competitive last year. We were prety creative at times finding new ways to lose. But...when all was said and done, we were 1-11. That's the reality of where SMU football dwells.

How did we do against top 25 teams last year. Oh yeah that's right, we didn't play any. We've played two in a row (TCU, if not top 25 is probably top 30). I am not convinced we were more competitive then. I think we will see closer games as our team improves and our opposition weakens, and possibly we will win a couple. It's not like we play in the SEC.

just don't get your hopes up. Tulane played Alabama and ECU tough. Another road game - likely another bad loss. The rest of the schedule looks pretty tough. Can only hope these guys continue to improve and watch Memphis' season - they might be our only hope for another win since that's a home game and Homecoming (which means hopefully as many as 15k fans that day.

I agree that the schedule, with the exception of Texas State, has thus far been probably far tougher than last year. Problem is to figure out whether or not the teams on the remaining schedule have improved or remained somewhat the same. Because of the QB situation, I would guess the team is not as good as last year for many reasons to include placing the defense in difficult situations and forcing them to be on the field for far too much time thereby affecting/reducing effectiveness.

Look at the out of conference schedule for the years to come it won't get any better. We were more competitive last year.

Basically.
And our defense couldn't stop a speeding herd of 3 legged turtles.
Maybe we could hire back Phil as defensive coordinator, Rusty Burns, as
OC, and let JJ run things.

rusty burns as OC? Please spare me. We have lost exactly one game more then anyone sane might have thought - Rice.
JUCO's are the answer. 2 LB's, 1 DL, and 1 safety.

That's being way too sensible.
Just as three games doesn't make a coaching career...neither does 4 games.

Last year Sagarin ranked us #169.
Western Michigan, Eastern Washington, Western Kentucky, Western Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Northeastern, Northern Illinois, Northern Arizona, Central Arkansas and Stony Brook were all ranked higher than us.
This year Sagarin has us ranked #142.
We can debate which team is more competitive, SMU of this year or last, but what is the real point?
It’s like having a debate over which turd’s smell is the least offensive. In the end, they are both turds and both offensive.
