Hold on fellas. Let's put this thing into perspective.

Before the season started, most posters on this board were saying Rice was a "must win" – we had to win the Rice game, or the likelihood was that we'd start 1-3. Nobody thought we'd beat Tech, and very few people thought we had much of a chance against TCU. And guess what, that's how it turned out.

I'm a bit crabby myself, but that's mainly because after 3 weeks of improvement, I think we took a step backwards this week. Given the history and the improvement on defense against Tech, I figured we could make a game of it.

All that aside...

We won the one game we were supposed to win (Texas State).
We lost one game people thought we could win (Rice) but didn't.
We lost two games that, barring a miracle, we were going to lose anyway.

So in retrospect, we're pretty much right where everybody thought we would be other than the loss to Rice. And again, in retrospect, seeing how we were starting a freshman QB and implementing new offensive and defensive schemes against an experienced opponent, maybe that was asking too much.

But this week, all the nastiness is over and we're playing a mediocre Tulane team in conference.

Will we win? Maybe yes, maybe no. But at this point I'm not willing to write off the season because we lost to two nationally ranked teams on the Mustangs' third and fourth games with new personnel in a new system.

I think after Thursday, we'll have a much clearer picture about where we are, where we have to go and whether this is a "rebuilding" season or not.

He got on camera the last minute or so of the game. He was congratulating DW right before the game ended.

I was at a sports bar Saturday afternoon and PB was on one screen while another showed Tom Rossely as the A&M QB coach. Who says the SMU job is a career killer?

If I recall correctly I believe it was stated early in the year that part of the deal JJ made to come here is that he would have all the time he needed to make this team over and I don't believe that referred to just the first four games of his first year here...or even his first year. Now maybe the athletic department misinterpreted what that meant or thought we had a good enough talent base that it would be a quick turn around which led them to over hyping the games this year. The problem with the over hyping is that a lot of folks bought into the hype and are now very disappointed and perhaps inclined to not come back for any more games this year or next year either.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
