I'll agree that it is really frustrating how bad we look but absolute best case I don't see how we could have hoped to be any better than 2-2 at this point. Tech and TCU were going to beat us no matter what - they are very good teams.

We were up 2 td's in the rice game and then just fell apart. A win wasn't out of reach there.

So although we've gotten our butts kicked the last 2 weeks in a row, 1-3 isn't a complete disaster when 2 of the losses are coming at ranked teams.

Let's get this thing back on track.

I was only six years old when the 89 team came back from the Death Penalty so I don't know how bad they were. But I was a student at SMU from 02-06 and saw every home game in that time period and can say without a shadow of a doubt any of those 02-06 teams would beat the [deleted] out of this 08 team.

I didn't expect a post in this thread to make me laugh out loud, but that one did. Indeed, sometimes when you drink the cool-aid, it doesn't work out so well. And that's what seems to be going on here.

Perhaps it's the nature of being a sports fan, or maybe there's more at work here. But some folks around here are so feast or famine, hot or cold. Hiring Jones wasn't a good reason to predict a bowl this season, and losing (even as badly as we have lost) isn't a good reason to predict we won't win anything from here on out.

I will say that I'm disappointed in our offense, though I assumed having a true freshmen out there is a grab-bag of misery. I'm also concerned with what appears to be a lack of 2nd half adjustments on both sides of the ball. Though I suppose that when you only have x% of the playbook down, there's only so much room for adjusting.

Anyhow, we'll pick up another win or two, which won't be nearly as good as some folks were hoping for, but not as bad as some are now predicting. And while not as good as any of us would like, this years recruiting class will be a short step in the right direction.

Please tell me who on our schedule are we going to beat based on what we've seen so far? I cannot imagine any C-USA team losing to us and it ain't even close. The only marginal chance of victory is Navy, and that's a real stretch.

Using coin-flip analysis I'll go with Navy and Memphis (imagine what would happen on this board if there were a... winning streak lol), however it's not based on what we've seen, but the belief that they will start working on page 2 of the playbook sometime in October.

If we beat a Div.1A team this year then its going to be a TOTALLY different team than the one I've seen these first three weeks. If we beat Navy and Memphis those will both be stunning upsets as we will likely be a 14-21 point dog to Navy and a 10-17 point dog to Memphis. Seriously, if we win another game this year its a tear down the goalpost worthy upset.

I'm not predicting any road victories, BUT UTEP lost their QB and two top RBs in recent weeks. Might want to keep an eye out on UTEP-tough place for SMU to win a game though.

I would have put UTEP in place of Navy, but our guys tend to suffer depression once they realize they are in El Paso.

What a pit.

I could see us making it interesting in El Paso for a half. Navy on the road isn't going to be pretty. Its probably a little early to predict how the Memphis game will play out, but I'll be happy to stay within 20 of them.

Everything is too freaking early to predict. Good God!

Does anyone have this Saturday's college football results handy?

You are kidding, right? Navy? That'll be one of the tougher teams, unless the wheels have come off post Coach P.J.

I agree with Stallion (somebody, please get me a beer). UTEP is a possibility of a road win, but it'll be tough. IF, and it's a big IF...SMU gets a win at Tulane, then we might have something going in CUSA.

well, Navy lost to Duke, that other crappy team which has one 4 games-total-since 2004.

Oh, Duke's on its way to 3-1. And Navy will hand our [deleted] to us.
