Neuheisel pays price for great expectations

"PASADENA Did you hear what UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel said on Saturday after his Bruins suffered a second consecutive blowout defeat?

He thanked the fans.

For not booing.

"I appreciated the fans for staying. It had to be hard to watch," said Neuheisel..."

"First-year coaches everywhere, take note. This feeling of disappointment is why you shouldn't make bold promises without having a few games to see what you have to work with."

"Victory, for now, is too high an expectation. A competitive game again the No. 25 Fresno State on Saturday at the Rose Bowl might even be too much to ask.

But Bruin effort and collective improvement – perhaps, a touchdown from the struggling, injury-ravaged offense – would be an achievement.

"There is not a quick-fix solution to this," ...

"Will fans return to the Rose Bowl on Saturday to watch the Bruins again? What can they expect to see?

For now, Neuheisel has lowered the expectations for the team. But that still won't stop people from feeling disappointed or, maybe one day in the future, booing."

Sound familiar?

and the

is even worse on Slick Ricky...

UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel fails his most important test of the season

""Do your players really buy into this garbage you give them?" A standard Page 2 Test type of question.

"The young people in this program are aware we need to improve now," Neuheisel said, and if they aren't aware they need to improve after scoring three points on their last 22 offensive drives, how did they ever get into UCLA?"

and

"You notice he didn't answer the question, which allows for the Page 2 annoying follow-up. "I know, but do you have the talent here to be competitive?"

"I'm not going to talk about whether or not the talent exists," "

All I can add is JJ should thank the Dear Lord he is in Dallas and not in socal!

Lucky for JJ no one in Dallas gives a rat's fat [deleted] about SMU football so we could go 0-12 for the next 50 years and no one would know or care.

Perhaps some of the 30,293 at Ford care somewhat.

You know what I mean. The diehards like those of us on this board care, but until SMU gives Dallas a reason to care, they won't. People came to the TCU game b/c TCU brought a ton of fans, great weather, and its our biggest rival. I'm really looking forward to seeing our crowd numbers for the rest of the season.

95% of division 1 school’s fans would be constantly spouting venom if given our current situation....but the small minority on here who actually question JJ's decisions get portrayed as bad fans, or as not having a clue. If this was going on at UCLA, TX Tech, Tulsa, TCU or almost anywhere else, their message boards would be a blood bath.

You pay a guy $2 million - he comes in and benches our all-conference QB, then starts a true freshman who looks terrible going 0-3 against division 1 schools with 10 INTs and only 4 TDs……and we are supposed to sit back and be rah-rah-rah.

Must mean that I'm a bad fan. Just because I'm a fan doesn't mean a) I check my brain or my passions at the door or b) I'm going to give a coach or players who I otherwise respect and like a pass on poor decision making. I respect Jones, and I have been very calm about my concerns because I believe that non-conference really would not have been any different. However, if CUSA ball doesn't get any better than Non-Conference, new coach or not, coaching guru or not, I will be apoplectic.

And if the grumpy know-it-alls or kool-aid drinking Karl Roves of football fandom don't like it, they can all kiss my royal Scottish [deleted].

I forgot to mention A&M.....I'm sure it is beyond ugly over there. They don't lack passion.

btw, they just had a short but interesting discussion about JJ, SMU and the program on the Hardline. Corby was talking about how great the environment is on gameday.

However, we all understand JJ's position on BLM. That he thinks BLM will correct his mistakes in time this season with experience by playing through them.......The real question is what and when will JJ make changes if BLM continues to throw several interceptions per game over the next few games ? The short passing game JJ has to limit his offense to in order to help BLM's limited knowledge won't be alot of fun to watch, and will make games harder to win as defenses will just keep our receivers in front of them. It may not work in limiting interceptions. Just look at the TCU DT interceptions last week.
