[i]First, there was the Bataan Death March. Then there was the trek the Longhorn Alumni Band had to make Saturday night to get to their assigned seats at Royal-Memorial Stadium.
For the UT-Rice game, the alumni band was given seats so far up in the northeast corner of the stadium  sections 118 and 119  that the University of Texas should have provided oxygen.
“That’s a long way up,â€

sounds like the texas band alumni were given free bleacher seats.
for the SMU parent weekend we got the very top row and no other parents were near us. in fact I liked the seats. our daughter's roommates parents were assigned seats in a sea of purple TCU fans.

IS THAT ALL?
The 700 member alumni band provides $30,000 in scholarships? The SMU alumni band of 45 provides over $20,000 in annual scholarships.
Just send 'da money.

I believe that the $30,000 that they provide in scholarships is what is raised by the alumni band on just that one day.

Eh, I just find that hard to believe that their entire alumni organization, which is roughly 3000 people(not just the people that show up for alumni band day), would only give 30k a year. Then again, I guess it is ut.

Why do we care about the Alumni Band at UT?
It's not SMU
It's not football
If the UT band was somehow relevant in our lives - which it's not - it's not even the current UT band.
WHO CARES?

It is offset, however, by the football players robbing the pizza delivery guys to get their money.

Are you just considering the persons who show up and play on the Blvd. and in the stands? There are SMU band alumni that give money that don't participate in the spirit bands every week.
