Says SMU robbed her of a scholarship at Oregon State. Oregon State coach says she never talked to SMU.

Says SMU robbed her of a scholarship to Cal State Fullerton. CSUF coach says she never talked to SMU.

Two major claims appear to be total BS. I'm guessing the rest of this is BS, too. Juicy story, but appears to lack any merit at all.

Says she wanted to play professionally in Europe. Hey, I'd like to play professionally in Europe, too, and I'd like to date Jessica Biel, but that's why they call those ideas "fantasies."

If she had her scholarship unlawfully revoked due to "Serious Misconduct". Then I can see why she's not getting scholarship offers from other programs. Just saying.

It's worse. Reading the DMN story, it's along the lines of sexual harrassment.

This is gonna be bad...

if so, Colli is just as guilty. As well as her teammates, who signed affidavits accusing Rhonda of having being 'involved' with one of the coaching staff. If Colli's lovelife is off limits, so too should be Rhonda's.

I guess we could make everyone happy and let Rhonda go but hire Pokey Chapman.

I think it is the coach's business if two players are involved with one another. Nothing good can become of that situation for the team. I don't think that position can be considered sexual harrassment. This girl is stretching. I think she was just hoping for a settlement to keep this out of the media.

Her attorney obviously is trying to get as much media attention as possible to leverage against SMU. Would not be surprised if this story became old news quickly. Sounds like SMU felt she was making totally unfounded scurrilous public allegations against the coaching staff and revoked her ship.

No way we should let her go. Rompola was a great player at SMU, and is a great coach at SMU. The school wouldn't be defending her like this if there wasn't a lot of evidence showing this is a total BS claim. Story says her claims about the other schools are false. regis, I don't think this is going to be bad at all. Someone posted her JUCO stats here the other day, and they weren't any good, either. She barely got off the bench at SMU and sucked in JUCO, and she wants a pro career? Sounds like someone who can't accept the idea that she just wasn't good enough to play. She needs to go away and get a job, and get over her pipedream of being a basketball player - college or pro.

Maybe one of our law students could use his/her free access to pacer and download the complaint.

not a law student. But I have the complaint downloaded from PACER. 17 pages. Can't copy and paste Adobe reader. Some highlights:

-alleges that at the first team meeting Rhompola made it clear she did not approve of gay relationships
-alleges that a teammate stole her English paper and turned it in as her own, causing three of them to be brought before the "Honor" folks
-alleges she was ostracized after her scholarship was yanked
-says Orsini was the one who told her no more scholarship, and that she asked Orsini who he talked to, and alleges Orsini only talked to coaches
-cites Breach of Contract, Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, Promissory Estoppel, Fraud, and Breach of Duty-Good Faith.

I am a bit concerned about this. Like all lawsuits, I am sure there is quite a bit of fluff in there but at the core, with four players signing afidavits there could have been some misconduct and inapropriate comments by the staff...whether that is worth $2 million, I would doubt it.

The claim that it cost her other offers and a WNBA contract is pretty far fetched which I am guessing most of that dollar amount comes from.

My guess is that it will be quietly settled for a much smaller sum and that the staff will face some "quiet' disiplinary action.

The bad thing is that this is a juicy story and the media will pick up on it and run with it which may make SMU want to settle rather than let it drag on.

It sounds as though SMU is willing to take it to trial. To me, that says SMU is pretty confident in their position.
