What's Wrong With The SMU Fan

Postby Dylan08 » Thu Oct 02, 2008 8:44 am

Now that we have all heard what is wrong with the this year’s team, coaching, QB, defense, lack of talent, lack of size, lack of depth, etc., I submit we need to discuss what is wrong with the typical SMU Football Fan. My nominations in no particular order are:

Generally a group a whiners

Arrive late, leave early

Fail to appreciate that the opponent are trying to prevent you from doing the fundamentals such as running down the field, catching the ball, trying to avoid being tackled.

That coaching is a career, a job and an art. That coaches spend their entire careers developing their craft.

Wear pink shirts to games

That the best team does not always mean putting the best players on the field

Jaybird, is that you? LOL.

Really though, Pink isn't one of our colors, we really need to leave the Miami Vice polos in the closet and not on the Boulevard.

I don't know about that, but in the SMU context it means the team that won. Therein lies the problem.

Sure glad I'm not a 'typical' SMU fan.

ATTITUDE:

That is the reason I made up the MUSTANG MILITIA shirts.

Too many SMU fans come to a social event. That is not, in itself a bad thing, but it is the only reason to show up for too many.

To sit in the stands and discuss the shoe sale at Nordstoms while the team is driving down the field... is not right.

SMU fans need to be social on the Boulevard and then get to the game and be a FOOTBALL fan. Yell, sing and study the game.

Watch the formations, the line play, play selection and effort of the team.

Be a member of the MUISTANG MILITIA and come to WIN.
Peace through Strength.

Excellent point. I'm sure you noticed the social catillian going on in the aisle in front of us for the first, oh five-six minutes of the TCU game. That, combined with the TV camera platform, and it was enough to drive someone crazy.

I must say I was a little disappointed in missing much of the game due to that TV camera platform. I there a reason we can not have it on the other side of the field where the 50 yard line seats are generally empty and it would not block the view of paying customers?

If Oscar was involved, it shouldn't have been much of a distraction... at least not for very long.
