What a flustercluck that was. My question was why was McKinney the guy receiving the lateral instead of virtually any other running back we had? The guy is tough but we needed a burner to get that lateral to run the next 45 yards. Secondly, Mitchell can throw the ball 60 yards with some accuracy, why did they just run a bunch route to the endzone and hope for a tip drill TD? It was a wierd play. The onside kick was well planned and nearly executed.

Probably the single most difficult play to "hit" in all of football...usually, it is a complete surprise when it works...

No idea what that cluster was. Why not run a post pattern at that point?
I would say the onside kick was not something this team needs to try ever. It was a momentum changer with the penalty added on. UCF got excellent field position.
Not smart at all with 8 minutes or more in the 4th QTR.

Some of ya'll were calling for JJ to pull some 'trick' plays yesterday. Be careful what you ask for.
Unfortunately, it wasn't executed very well but at least they tried it.
And the resulting 'lateral-to-fumble-to-lateral' debacle made ESPN's highlight reel.

I was hoping that would be the time for the Morstead dropkick we read about in Dave Campbell's Texas Football this summer.

I agree with EastStang. No matter how great the element of surprise would have been, somebody would have caught a guy that slow even if he'd had an even bigger head start.
Seeing the return come right at us in the endzone seats, I felt like I was in a horror movie.
However, seeing the long TD to Robinson come right at us was great.

Probably 200 or so. I know there were 150 plus at the pregame tailgate. Good crowd. Unfortunately we were stuck in the endzone.

I'm all for calling trick plays, but only if they work!
Oh.
Meh, I was glad to see them have a go at it. Wish it would have worked out. Much like the OSK that didn't quite work out. Or really, much like half the plays we've called from the opening kickoff at rice to the clusterfuck in Florida: Not so much the playcalling, but rather the execution.

Speaking of trick plays the Redskins worked a reverse with the wide out (Randle El) throwing a pass to the tight end (Cooley) for a TD. It was executed perfectly. Of course Randle El was a QB in college.
