Well said!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Most interesting. Is Emmanuel Sanders changing numbers or is he grandfathered in until graduation?

Look at his stats for his last year at SMU, BLM may not have such a bad record after all for a freshman.

Please....

You can't compare eras like that. Meredith was greatness, a two-time All-American.
What, Doak was nothing special because of Earl Campbell thirty years later?

Just wanted to clarify, we're retiring his jersey, not the number 17. Emmanuel will keep on sporting 17.

If you retire numbers, you'll eventually run out of them. Heck, Kentucky basketball has at least 34 retired jerseys. If they retired numbers, they couldn't field a team!

I don't understand. Are you saying somebody's been wearing Dandy Don's actual jersey for all these years?? I never noticed. I surprised that thing didn't retire on its own years ago.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Of course if we were forced to use triple digit numbers due to retirement of numbers, our players would look bigger. At least wider.

Hey SID-
Are there any plans for us to have some type of permanent recognition in Ford of the jerseys we have retired (Doak, LeVias, Gregg, Berry, Dickerson and now Meredith)?

I am thinking something like having their names and numbers displayed somewhere on the scoreboard structure in the south endzone or along the facade of the boxes on the west side (similar to the ring of honor at Texas Stadium). While I am at it, can we also have some mention of the 1935 National Championship somewhere in the stadium, too (and maybe add the years of the SWC cahmpionships)?

This is all part of the great history and tradition of SMU football and we should display that somewhere that everyone can see.

Absolutely a great suggestion.

I would love to have to worry abolut fielding a team in spite of two many retired numbers compared to our current situation. Wondering when someone will have a large enough impact in their career at SMU to warrant having there number retired...

We currently fly flags on the north end of the stadium recognizing the first five as well as former trainer Cash Birdwell.

I have seen those, but I was thinking of something that is more prominent. Its hard to notice those flags unless you are looking for them.

Meredith Jersey Retired

Hey PonySoprano, great ideas. You need to give up your day job as Family Boss and get into the marketing arena. Seriously, these are all great ideas and I wonder why someone in the Athletic Dept. hasn't pursued this concept. "Pony Up" and other marketing messages are great, but to have the messages you suggested "in your face" all the time at sporting events is "priceless." Hope someone takes notice.
