Stallion Wrong about Todd Dodge

Postby Dwan » Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:04 pm

Why was that post deleted....here is my response.

The post is about how you were wrong about Dodge as a college head coach. He is 2-15, his offense is ranked 118th in the nation in scoring and his defense his ranked 119th in the nation. He loses by an average of 25.8 points.

Now, those are just numbers but have you seen his teams play? They make a Phil Bennett team look well coached. If you look at where North Texas was before he arrived, where they are now, how they are playing, and the fact he went from high school to division one football, it is really hard to argue that he is doing a good job. I'm judging his coaching ability not on his record, but on how bad they look.

You speak of "pixie dust" coaches. What about "pixie dust recruiting classes?" So you think that they way his teams are playing that as soon as his number 70 ranked recruiting class (what would that number be without his 4-Star son?) that all of a sudden his terribly coached teams will be going to bowls like they were under Dickey?

Just say, my bad, I thought he would be a better coach. I was wrong.

And this post is not about North Texas, it is about calling out Stallion when he is dead wrong!

PS - They would be at least .500 under Gary Gibbs

I've already responded to this thread. All I'll say is that it will be interesting to see if June Jones has 2 Division 1A victories halfway through his second year.

Apparently, we are satisfied with the state of our program as we have gone from whining and complaining about our program to whining and complaining about Ponyfans.com posters.
Dodd was hired when we had a coach and were not looking. UNT did what they felt was best for UNT in hiring Dodd.

Whether a high school coach can jump to college and succeed is a never ending debate. And it hasn't a thing to do with our situation.

Good luck to Dodd and UNT. But better luck to JJ and the Ponies. Now, let’s get back to our psychopathic whining and complaining about the post DP Ponies.

I never saw Stallions response or the thread.

I would imagine he would say he didn't have enough time yet.

But, if Dodge continued as is, Stallion would never say he was wrong about his manlove crush.

Go Ponies, beat the spread!

What is the point of this thread?? Dodge and NT have nothing to do with us. We're not in the same conference, we don't play the same teams, we really don't recruit the same kids.......

btw, Dodge is not doing any worse than JJ....only difference is JJ has college skins on the wall.

Thank goodness with our last dime we've all bought into this notion that our only competition is NTSU. Too bad UTA dropped football or we might have another rival to compete with. That overcusser idiot may be right, there are plenty of people here obsessed with NTSU.

The bottom line: Jones and Dodge are both good coaches whose teams collectively do not have enough D-1 talent to fill a thimble. Get over it, moms, dads and ponyfans.

How can you say Dodge is a good coach? High school, yes. College, not yet and probably no. He had a alot of advatages at Southlake over a lot of high schools. June Jones has won at the NFL, USFL, and college. Let's not compare those two. June Jones is in a different league.

I agree. I'm not sure what the point of these NT threads are?? Posting about TCU, Baylor, Rice and Houston is understandable...they are our natural rivals. But we have no history against NT and they have only been division 1 for several years...yet some on here are compelled to post about them?? Very strange. How is Tarleton St's coach working out this year?

One more thing pony fan posters: do not get mad at Stallion or other posters who state opinions and/or facts that put SMU football in a negative light. SMU has been absolutely awful for a long time. 1 win last year and 1 win this year over Texas State. This thing deserves to be criticized, critiqued, and questioned until wins start coming. The right to express different opinions and view points about SMU football on this board makes it a great forum for SMU fans. If everyone was all sunshine all the time then this board would be boring and inaccurate.

totally agree, todd is a fraud. all these supposed texas high school football gurus have this belief that since he actually did something at southlake he's a good coach. they're ranked 19th in the nation right now, doing fine without him

And we're still obsessing over NTSU's coach. The day before a game. We truly are SMU fans.

The reason Southlake is a consistently top program is they only have 1 senior high school, thus they don’t split the talent pool. In Southlake, the Juniors and Seniors attend one school, the Frosh and Soph’s attend the other. Whereas other districts, like Denton, Grapevine-Colleyville, Lewisville, Plano, HEB, etc. keep adding high schools and splitting up the talent base. Imagine if you take the best athletes from Trinity and LD Bell this year and put them on one team, they’d be truly unstoppable (though Trinity is looking pretty unstoppable on their own).

So, where some schools struggle to even field a competitive team and have to start Sophs, and some even Freshmen, the only way a Sophomore sees the field at Southlake U. is if their outstanding, such as Tre’ Newton.

The positive is the school will always field a good team, the negative is only ½ the kids in the district get to participate since there’s only 1 team they can play on instead of 2.
