Update on top 100 b-ball recruit Aaron DotsonModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower [deleted] Hightower was an All_American FOOTBAL center in 1950.
The Krebs era was really the beginning of "SMU basketball tradition." During Jim's years on the varsity we went to the NCAA's three times, were ranked in the Top 5 twice., and had one Final Four appearance. Just because you don't do these things every year does not mean that SMU has no basketball tradition. My guess is he was probably thinking about Larry Showalter instead of [deleted] Hightower.
First, he said "great" basketball tradition, and when you only do those things at the beginning of "SMU basketball tradition" and then not again for 50 years it kinda does mean our tradition is not "great." Just to contrast, schools with great basketball traditions include Duke, NC, UCLA, Arkansas, and that ilk. Not SMU, although we aspire to one and have made strides in that direction in terms of facilities and the like. I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Be real people, SMU has close to no national history in hoops, just some SWC titles before it was a legit hoops conference. My other school, Maryland is having trouble selling tradition and history, and they won the national championship this decade. Its about what happens in the tourneys, the NIT in days past, and NCAA now. The class of 2010, whom we should be recruiting already, weren't born last time we went to the NCAA's. Tradition is something you can't sell w/regards to SMU hoops
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
tradition in football, ok
tradition in basketball, i don't think so regardless, i think coach doh is a great recruiter. maybe a miracle will happen and this guy will come here. with him and paul mccoy i really think this thing could turn around quickly
We're about to start our third year...I don't know that I would call that a quick turn around. I'm not saying we aren't where we should be, or that it could have been done faster. I'm just saying that waiting until the 3rd year to see more wins, against sub-par opponents, isn't what I would call a quick turn around. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Is not tradition simply an established history of something? Our football team has a losing tradition that goes back a solid 20 years without a gap. I think it falls into the tradition category.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
yea good point: why read what i wrote when you can just guess? my point was, if we get a couple of these top guys in, i think our team could quickly improve. thought that was pretty clear. i think it's pretty obvious neither smu basketball nor smu football has experienced a quick turnaround to date.
According to Rivals-Russell will make his 4th and probably last recruiting visit to SMU this weekend although he is waiting to hear from UCLA. Has already visited Texas Tech, Iowa and Kansas State. Texas Hoops has him rated as No. 4 player in Texas which would be one of the highest Texas rated prospects since well probably Jeryl Sasser.

No commitments yet had a good time. Some thing that might play a factor-notice that new football commitment Chayse Joubert is a transfer from Arlington Grace Prep to Ducanville this year. At a private school like Grace Prep its likely that Joubert and Nic Russell are good friends. Probably attended the game together last Nite.
