Surprised BYU's 2001 season hasn't been brought up. I think this was the first year post-Lavell, with now-LSU OC Gary Crowton at the helm. BYU was 12-0, and their athletic director was running his mouth about how they should be in a BCS game. Problem is, he started running his mouth prior to their last game of the season.

Final score of that last game:
BYU 45
Home Team 72

Anyone know the team and coach of the guys with 72?

It is a passing based attack but is more like the spread. Check your facts.

The only reason they won the national championship that year was the offense they ran. 4 - 5 wide and throwing the ball on every down. Lavell Edwards was one of the first.

WRONG....the only reason they won a National Championship is because they played NOBODY that season.

Their only wins against 'BCS' opponents were a 3-7-1 Pitt team, a 5-6 Baylor team, and then, to add insult to insult, a 6-6 Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl.

Without a doubt, THE MOST LEAST DESERVING NC TEAM EVER

I believe the 3rd season should be an indicator of how well our investment is doing. Two full seasons and two spring practices for the new system.

They played a schedule like everybody else! Same as today. Hawaii played nobody last year until Georgia beat them like a red headed step child. Damn near killed Colt Brennen.

And what exactly is your POINT?

Thanks to the BCSBS - SMU will never will the national championship. I agree with that but what is your point to spout out the crap you do? Neither will TCU.

What is your suggestion? You've only posted the most garbage of any poster on this board. $2M a year is not your money big guy. Yes, year 5....he'll be rich and we should be in a bowl at least. That is about all we can ask for after 20 years.

WTF, man? I mean, really, what is your point? You're frustrated? Yeah, no kidding. We get that. We bought the t-shirt. Next. You're irritated that Jones is coach? Wait a second...didn't you just get finished on some other thread that Jones & Co. know what they are doing and will fix SMU's losing? Or is all that tongue-in-cheek sarcasm, and it just hasn't translated on this forum properly?

Next subject:
What was Burns' offense called, eh? (besides "crap" before JWill got there) Is it the wannabe WVU spread? The wannabe Utah option spread? The wannabe somethin-or-other spread? Is that where we need to be? Jones' spread is the run-and-shoot, or some derivative of it? Okay. Got it. Who the [deleted] cares when it started or from whence it came? It's his system; he likes it. Still needs athletes. And since Jones says that the best athletes on the field tend to win the game, I think he probably believes that first, no matter his preference for tossing the ball.

I am cool that he knows what he is doing. A lot of folks, experts and so-called experts...think the same thing. We may all be wrong, just like everybody was wrong about Iraq having WMDs... ...however, in this case, I am pretty sure that Jones' track record gives him considerably more credibility than either Bush or you.

I always think of that scene in Polanski's (sometimes terrible) Bitter Moon, when I think of that song. Here, not connected with said scene -

But, the version that leads me to know the lyrics better than I should (and though it is from a terrible band, it's a memorable remake) --

That version makes me laugh every time.

Sorry, I now return you to your regularly scheduled program of SMU talk.

TCU had every opportunity in the world to play for a national championship. We spoiled that in 06. I am sorry my garbage bothers you. Must have hit a nerve with the 2 mil. Are you one of the ring of champions, or whatrever they are called. What seperates us from TCU?

Have another drink dude, just spouting my two cents like everybody else. We should care about what offense is run here because we have to have the athletes to do it. At this point it is just wishful thinking. I just have a lot of fun discussing football with people who obviously no nothing about it. Just having fun dude. Don't get serious about this board.

Burns was pretty smart about what he was doing, because he knew what he had to work with. I don't know what the offense was called either but it stayed in the top 40 in total offense the last two seasons. We were 1-11 last year and our offense ranked in the top 40.

I think you are over estimating the value by a lot. Furthermore, I fin it hilarious that you think you "no" so much more about football than anyone else here, Mr. Contradiction.

You, sir, have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. And these two quotes prove it.
