Wow...great stuff Stallion, grew up loving this man ( I am married), but really lived and died Dandy during the late 60's, specially his battles with Dr. Frank Ryan, his nemesis QB in Clevtown.

Sadly nobody apparently has put a video of Dandy Don singing "Turn out the Lights" on Youtube or other Video source that I can find. That needs to be saved for posterity.

Dandy Don during a Redskin Broadcast on MNF watched as the cameras panned to their veteran QB Sonny Jurgensen.

Jurgensen was know for his late night activities and his corpulent belly indicated as much.

Dandy Don immediately noted the obvious to an enraptured audience,

"Now there is an example of what clean living can do for you!"

From the 1959 Time magazine article:

"At S.M.U. he is a business major (C average), counts the days until Christmas vacation when he will marry blonde Cheerleader Lynne Shamburger, wears a complete wardrobe from his father's dry-goods store in Mt. Vernon, and grins at the standard campus gag: Meredith has done more for Mt. Vernon than George Washington."

Classic.

I thought it was cool when he took the Nestea plunge.

Also let's not forget his Oscar-worthy performance in Mayday at 40,000 Feet! From the IMDB:
The co-pilot and engineer of a passenger jet struggle to keep the plane airborne until it can reach an open airfield after a killer aboard the plane fires a gun at an engine and pilot of the plane.

Don played one of the flight crew, I think the pilot. If I recall correctly he landed this plane AFTER IT LOST AN ENTIRE WING.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

They are retiring the jersey, not the number.

I was at a MNF game at the Cotton Bowl, Dallas vs. the St Louis Cardinals.

Dandy Don had retired the year before and was now in the booth announcing the game.

Well, the Cowboys were getting absolutely hammered by the Cardinals.

At one point during the game, the entire crowd stood up and waved Meredith to get back down on the field….he politely refused.

As much as I hate to correct jtstang, I believe DM was actually a "Lipton Tea Lover."
