Not so fast, buckaroo. For a defensive coordinator heading up the football program he has done a remarkable job. He has put our feelers before and had 0 takers. He's not gonna be on many (if any) short lists. He does want to leave - he has made that known in coaching circles.

He also does not quite have the personality to be the face of a major program like Nebraska or Michigan. He could get a mid level BCS job like a Texas Tech or Purdue.

the Big 12 is not about to offer TCU even if they had a spot available. Big 12's biggest problem by far is its lack of TV sets. TCU doesn't bring any they don't already have. If a spot opens up it will go to a state school where they currently have no presence.

I wasn't saying the BigXII is pursuing another school. I'm just saying that TCU has a compelling argument to get into a BCS conference. Make no mistake, the TCU administration made the commitment to run a big-time, BCS level program and they’re doing everything possible make the program appealing to a BCS conference. I believe in the near future Utah and BYU will join the Pac 10.....and TCU's program has been at their level this entire decade.

got any backup on that?
Didn't think so. Typical SMU bluster..
Gary will leave when he gets the job that is perfect for him, and no sooner. Why should he? He has a great gig with people that really dig him in Fort Worth. He sure as hell won't be going to K-State no matter what http://www.hirepatterson.com/ has to say.

That's my question. He's been there since Franchione left 7-8 years ago. TCU has consistently done fairly well over that time, but Patterson never seems to get much press as a possible replacement at a big name BCS school (my impression based on what I see on news/sports sites, no empirical evidence). Is it really that he loves TCU that much? Is there another factor that has either scared schools away from him? Is there another factor that has kept him from considering a change?
I'm really not trying to flame, just curious.

It's amazing how much you know.
He doesn't want to leave...he was offered at Minnesota (2$ + mil yr) and Arkansas (2.5$ mil yr). Not to mention offers from countless other BCS programs, including Stanford.

yes, but why did he turn them down? Is TCU just that great of a place? I find it hard to believe that any school is such a great place that the coach wouldn't move on to greener pastures if given the chance. It just seems to go against a coach's nature. As often as Patterson talks about not getting any respect, you think he would have jumped at the opportunity to prove to the world that he as good as he thinks he is.

Minnesota's a commuter-ish school in the Arctic and Arkansas fans will never be happy until they're winning the mythical national championship every year...those might be reasons. I'm guessing he's happy enough there to not take a job unless it's his dream job.
