SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Perhaps...or maybe the material to draw from is not rich as it was then.

I forget, diamond m, what was there "first really famous one"? The Kerry/Bush "This land is my land" one? Or have they been around longer?
