Navy = Trap

Not necessarily in the traditional sense (overlooked), but bare with me:

SMU's passing attack hasn't peaked yet, but it has gotten a lot better in the last few weeks. Granted, it certainly helps that SMU is playing vs. more parity than this year's TCU & TTech the last few weeks, I think we have all been pleasantly surprised that supposed routs were not. Given Navy's vulnerability vs. the pass, methinks that Jones can certainly hang 25-35 on them.

Given Navy's experience and effectiveness with the triple-option, and the fact that they have been hanging roughly the same or better pts on the ground that SMU has through the air, methinks that they can certainly score on SMU, and because of the grinding nature of the offense, methinks also that they can suck up a lot of time doing it all the while exhausting our defense.

Add Navy's tendency to cut-block, and I am very, very nervous that this is another tight game, or even a win, but at the very expensive cost of our LBs and defensive lineman. That's a trap.... I'd like for this team to finish on the upswing this year, and losing DEs/DLs and LBs to cut-blocking isn't my idea of the way to get there.

with all due respect, the cut-blocking argument is terrible. having gone to to Air Force Academy and been an Air Force fan for 13 years now, the "cut-block" excuse was and is always made by the losing team who couldn't accept the fact that they were beat by Academy guys. i cant remember the last time an opposing player in an Air Force game has left the game with an knee or leg injury due to a "cut-block."

Point taken. I'm still concerned about injury. I will be at the LSU-Georgia game during the same time period. My 11 year old is going to learn a new language. :)

I have had discussions with 2 highly regarded HS coaches in Eastern PA who have players at ND, Pitt, Penn State, UConn to name a few. These coaches are close to big name college coaches. College coaches from these programs have told them they hate playing Navy because of the cut blocks. Coaches go into the Navy game with the acceptance that they will lose at least 3 players for at least the next game and at least 1 of those will be for the season.
