Glad we scored a TD as our chances of making a field goal is limited.

Yeah, Tom Mason, that's some quality work you're doing there.

For the 100th time, it is the personnel, not the scheme. Did you notice that Bennett was able to stop Navy at Pittsburg?

Mrydel - Personnel is part of the problem...a BIG part. But when the coach doesn't adjust the scheme until after the game is out of hand, that's on the DC. That's what we saw against Rice and Tulane. You can blame the other games on personnel.

Against Tulsa and Texas Tech I've got no complaints about the defense at all. We did good jobs in those games.

There are not that many schemes to adjust to with the triple option. You just need to execute. It takes superior play from the linebackers and DEs and strong support from the CBs. We do not have enough talent to handle it. I have played against this offense. It is not easy and you need quality athletes. That is why it is not played in the pros. They have 11 great players on the defnese that can shut it down. Not many college teams especially at our level have the talent necessary.

Of course it is always easier to just blame the coach.

I remember a play earlier in the game where Dodds ran for a first on 3rd down and it was because Bonilla over pursued and whiffed. Just play your darn position and you become a better tackler and then you aren't a lesser athlete. You are instead a smart player who knows how to play the game correctly even though you aren't the best athlete on the field. Would anyone feel better if we had 6' 5' 230lbs LBs who can run and move around great yet dont know how to read plays, overpursue and end up looking as jackasstic as Bonilla did on that one play. Just get some guys who are smart, disciplined and tough.
Larry Brown? We have Larry Brown? Cool!

Obviously it fooled the well discipline, smart Navy defender. Seems like sheer genius when we can pick our guy to screw up the defense.

I know all about the triple option. When I played (albeit, not on your level), a lot of our opponents ran it. As a DT, I became quite aware of what needed to happen: you need a simple scheme that will allocate men to each option that the offense has. If they are favoring an option, you key on that man. I haven't seen anyone keying on Dobbs yet, and I suppose that's my complaint. Maybe it's just that whoever is keying on Dobbs is getting beaten at the line. If that's the case, Mason needs to adjust the key.

Should we be able to stop this offense with our athletes? Probably not. But we should be able to at least force a pass or a PITCH every so often. I'm tired of seeing one man tear us up.

By the way, I also played O-line...our team ran a Wing-T that was heavy on misdirection (no option, thankfully, because I think our QB would have probably made the wrong decision 95% of the time). Our blocking schemes were similar to Navy's...lots of pulling, etc. etc. That's something else that the defense should be able to adjust to.

Army beat La Tech. Maybe the Army Navy game will be competitive this year.

To be fair, that was great use of misdirection.

The Edsel! One failure desreves a failure name. Shucks, maybe we should change our mascot to the Edsel.
