Every prediction of score (in the prediction thread) had Navy scoring 42 points or more and SMU losing. Guess what, Navy scored 34 and SMU lost. The only difference I see is that our offense did not step up in the elements and perform as they can.

Yes, Navy did not pass or pitch. If we had forced them to, perhaps they would had thrown an interception or fumbled. The problem was that certain players were not able to execute their positions as needed to force the issue. (I do not single out individual players who are doing their best.) We knew going in that we are inept at defending the option.

I am just disappointed that the weather was not better in order that we could have seen a full blown shootout, that probably would have resulted in the same outcome only more exciting and higher scoring.

We are a bad team right now but our progress is still the same as it was last week. Thankfully we do not face another option team this year and I think we match up ok with all three remaining teams. Hopefully we can win a couple of them and continue to build towards the future.

I do not mean to spew sunshine, but this past game was literally a total washout and certainly not a gauge of anything other than our lack of overall defensive talent against an option offense.

The thing that disappointed me was the lack of game time adjustments. Everyone watching knew Dobbs was going to run the ball 75% of the time, yet our defense looked clueless when he did....and you knew he was not going to throw the ball.

On offense, the weather was bad, so run the ball a few times?? The couple of times that Lunday got the ball he had nice gains. They only had three guys on the line and any run play was almost guaranteed 5 yards.

I realize we are not as talented as the teams we are playing but when you pay coaches as much as we are these guys, you would think that simple game time adjustments would be made.

the CBS-CS announcers once again did some nice scouting on Navy's Dobbs. Trev Alberts said from his first play-that the book on Dobbs is that he hasn't pitched on a play all year. I wonder if SMU's scouting was as perceptive as Alberts. That's the second time this year an announcer has basically pinpointed the ballgame involving SMU. Remember at Rice when the announcer said that SMU is trying to run quick screens and bombs to protect Mitchell from having the read the center of the field. The announcer stated that once Rice shuts those plays down, Mitchell could struggle.

Navy was smart NOT to put the ball in the air. The wind was swirling such that even a pitch could have knuckled. Deep snaps were an adventure as were several shotgun snaps.

Great time for this bunch to have 2 weeks to prepare for the Homecoming game.

Maybe out last/best chance for a win? Hope we can draw a respectable crowd to support the guys.

Winf in 2 weeks...and then win out for some season ending momentum?

No expectations...just a thought.

I don't get electing to receive the ball after winning the coin toss. Navy forced us to go against the wind from the start. Everything broke down from there.

The only reason to start with the wind in your face like that is coaching stubbornness.

The one positive thing June Jones has shown in his first year at SMU is an absolute belief in his way of doing things. But his one positive has led to a lot of negatives so far. I guess we just have to have faith that he knows what he's doing.

We all thought the same thing about taking the ball into that wind and rain, but Jones is trying to instill the philosophy that we just want more possessions than the opponent and we will outscore them to win.

And did anyone notice that the wind changed direction just about the time we "got the wind"? I think we were into the wind 50% of that game, playing with a cross wind for 35% and had the wind behind us for maybe 15% of that game. It was an adventure.

I found it extremely difficult to judge the wind. The east end was screened from much of the wind because of the steep closed end of the stadium configuration. No question that the more open west end was subject to a straight steady 25 mph wind. Seemed to me that most of the swirling was the mid-field area and it was fierce. Weather strips on the up rights of the east end goal posts were barely fluttering while the flags on the west end were flat out straight and ripping. I think your wind percentage observations supra were probably correct. Only time I recall we had any minimal wind was on the east end Navy fumble which was immediately converted into our only TD. No question we had adverse wind conditions for virtually all of our possessions that affected the whole game making any pass, pitch or shot gun snap into an adventure. This is the type of game where we needed some run in the R & S.

I noticed that as well. Not a fan of Trev Alberts, but he was spot on with his analysis. It is scary to think that the color analyst was prepped better than our coaching staff as far as the opposition’s personnel.

Had we scouted that kid better, we could have possibly forced some turnovers.

Somebody needs to tell the announcers at the UCF/Tulsa game that another team other than UAB was ahead of Tulsa at halftime this year.
