Julius Omoniurhie 6-11 center commits

The WCAC is the premier basketball league in the DC area. With perennial HS powerhouses like DeMatha, Gonzaga, St. John's, O'Connell, and others, this kid will be battle tested. Good Counsel also regularly schedules some of the other private schools like Georgetown Prep, Episcopal which have produced Division 1 players like Hibbert of Georgetown. I like the Doh is beginning to tap into the WCAC.

Boy, we've been expanding our academic programs way under the radar:

"I want to study agriculture and farming in college and someday return to Nigeria and help people with what I learned in college in America," Omoniurhie said. "After I finish college here and hopefully playing professional basketball, I do want to return home and help people with what I study here in farming and agriculture."

"The first thing I look at for the colleges is the academics: Does the college have a good agriculture program?" Omoniurhie added. "Secondly, I look at the basketball team. I also look at the coach at the school and the campus. I like all the schools [recruiting me], I don't really have a favorite -- but they are all good schools. I do want to get a good chance to get to play a lot, as well as getting a good education."

I think Doh convinced him to major in finance and just acquire an agricultre company instead.

Edit: sorry, the link is to his sophomore stats. 10 points, 6 boards, 3 blocks per game as a junior.

that was his soph year. last year he more than doubled those stats. from the espn.com article.

Omoniurhie averaged 10 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots as a junior, and his scoring numbers figure to increase as a senior with the graduation of All-WCAC Jordan Clarke, who averaged over 20 points per game.

Sounds like a decent signing, but a knock on him is that he's not from the DFW area. Don't we want local players?

We can't get local players because we pissed all over Jimmy Tubbs with the burgers and Cheer scandal and his coaching brethren do not like us.

Memphis does pretty well by recruiting nationally. Last year's top seven players were national recruits. I don't hear any of the (many) Tiger fans I cross paths with every day complain about the provenance of the players. (insert French joke here)

He's 16 in that picture remember. I would venture to say Bamba was just as skinny if not more so at that age. 6'11 at the age of 16 is mind boggling.

Maybe he'll play better if we falsify his drivers license to say he's from DFW.

Good pick-up by Doh. The WCAC is one of the Top 5 conferences in America. Certainly, Julius isn't a game changer or elite talent at this point, but he was hearing from slew of mid to high majors. Good Counsel is a solid basketball program and Julius will be a major factor. Certainly, he's very raw, but considerably less raw then a kid like Bamba was at the same stage. He's not Dia/Faye good, though.
