Good way to further divide an already confused team!

I have no problem with him chewing Davis out, just the Public Forum was childish!

He lost a lot of respect from me!

I disagree 100%. Under "normal" circumstances, you would be right. praise in public, punish in private. However given the depths from which he is trying to rebuild this team, and the apparent depth of the issues at hand, nuking Vernon Davis in public, and with such force was, in my opinion not only justified, but will ultimately do considerably more good than harm. If the team is divided and confused, they shouldn't be after that press conference, because the division is simple: Those who are behind the new coach and those who are not. This team will be united by week 11, even if there are only 8 players left on it. :)

Right on.

I love it, personally. Good to see and good to hear. He wasnt abusive of the media or anything of the sort. It just looked like he was waiting to say these things for awhile and got his chance as HC. That would be awesome if he decided to take a certain college D coordinator position...

From what I've heard, his players are behind him 100% on this. Vernon Davis acted like an immature, childish, crybaby in public, so obviously he didn't consider it to be a "private" matter. Other players have been quoted as saying it's about time someone made an example out of him.

Nice job, Coach Sing!

Singletary probably won't ever be more then the interim guy in SF, and Vernon Davis will use this to get away from Mike Martz and his horrible scheme for TEs. He'll go somewhere w/a legit QB and make plays.

Davis is a hot head, but calling him out in public as not being a team player is stupid. Davis is physical freak that made his rep in college catching balls. Since Alex Smith sucked & Martz doesn't use TE's, he's had to redefine himself as a blocking TE. Not only has he done that, he's one of the best blocking TEs in the league. That's pretty selfless.

Beyond that, if you watch the JT O'sullivan pick 6 from last week, Josh Wilson(seattle) is almost caught from behind by Vernon Davis who hunted him for 60 or so yards. Hardly the actions of a kid who doesn't care or is thinking of himself first.

Davis has chemistry issues, but Singletary is using the interim spot in a calculated effort to show he's eccentric and old school. He's grandstanding more than Davis
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

Yes, by all means he should be coddled.

Singletary is using his position to audition for a job. All of us are auditioning for something all the time. Be it a new job, a promotion, a new lover, God, whatever, we all do it. I appreciate what Singletary is doing. I think his ability to decide whether or not someone is acting in the best interest of the team after being on the field with him during practices and games over a period of time is a little better than mine or better than anyone watching that person on one play. The players seem to support him and that tells me something also.

Yes he is old school but I am old enough to know that even though many new techniques and innovations are good, some old school learning is pretty good every now and then. There is a reason that as good as Terrell Owens is that many teams do not want him. Not many teams were willing to bring Ricky Williams back to the NFL. Pacman is out of work again. Some players are not good for the chemistry of a team. Good coaches can sense that. Is Singletary a good coach? That is yet to be seen. I imagine he will probalby be given a HC chance full time by someone in the future and we will learn. But until then I still vote in favor of his methods.

Of course that is just my opinion and I am sure I will be put in my place again.
