Too bad. He has had some average recruiting classes in the past few years and now they want him out primarily because his talent levels = success are slightly below SEC levels. Every thing runs in cycles and despite his dedication and success they are quick to dump him in a down cycle. "What have you done for me lately."

Dr. Joseph Dolan: You know, it's a shame about Ed.
Fletch: Oh, it was. Yeah, it was really a shame. To go so suddenly like that.
Dr. Joseph Dolan: Ahh, he was dying for years.
Fletch: Sure, but... the end was really... very sudden.
Dr. Joseph Dolan: He was in intensive care for eight weeks!
Fletch: Yeah, but I mean the very end, when he actually died. That was extremely sudden.

The expectations within the SEC are getting ridiculous.....everyone expects to win and win now. It just doesn't work that way.
Arkansas forced out Houston Nutt after some great seasons there, meanwhile I think they will find it difficult to get back to that level of winning.
Auburn is unhappy even though they have had some great seasons in the past.
There are sometimes peaks and valleys with respect to the recruiting and I imagine some of that stems from winning. If I am recruit, why do I want to go to Florida or LSU where they are 2 and 3 deep when I can go somewhere else and play 3 of the 4 years there.
Fulmer had a good class lined up too....#6 in the country.
