As long as it is not confirmed by Dan Rather, I expect it is true.

From the Manhattan, KS newspaper:
Gary Patterson hired by Kansas State false? GoPowercat.com is reporting that Kansas State University has hired Texas Christian University head football coach Gary Patterson to the same position in Manhattan.
A source close to the situation has denied that report, saying that no discussions with Patterson have taken place.
The announcement comes just two days after the firing of current coach Ron Prince, who athletic director Bob Krause said Wednesday would finish the regular season with the team.
Patterson, a K-State graduate, was an assistant coach for KSU in 1982. He has been coaching at Texas Christian since 2000.
According to GoPowercat.com, Patterson has been offered a five-year deal for about $2 million a season. Talks between Patterson and KSU have been going on for about two weeks, the site said.
There was no word on when the coach would take over. TCU lost Thursday night to Utah, dropping the Horned Frogs from contention for a BCS bowl bid. The team has one regular-season game left, a home match with Air Force Nov. 22.
K-State faces the University of Missouri Saturday, and has home games against Nebraska (Nov. 15) and Iowa State (Nov. 22) left in its regular season, needing wins in two of its final three games to become bowl eligible.

"Gary Patterson's agent has denied to GoPowercat.com that Patterson has been hired by Kansas State. GoPowercat cited sources stating such earlier Friday.
"We have had no contact with K-State," George Bass, Patterson's agent, said.
Multiple sources have told GoPowercat that K-State has had discussions with Patterson and a deal was reached. Bass strongly denies this information.
Patterson is a K-State graduate who began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach on Jim Dickey's 1982 KSU staff at K-State. Since that first year, Patterson has had 10 stops along the way as an assistant coach before taking over the head coach duties at TCU in 2000.
Beginning with the 1996 season, Patterson was reunited with former Pittsburg State coach Dennis Franchione at New Mexico for two seasons as the defensive coordinator then moved to TCU when Franchione took over the Horned Frogs beginning with the 1998 campaign.
Patterson is 71-27 as TCU's head coach."

This might be one of those moments like the Aggie basketball coach. Sure, I'll take your job, and I'll take your job and I'll take your job. Oh, I'm not leaving since TCU has really upped the ante. K-State now has egg on its face for a premature leak. Patterson has egg on his face because it wasn't managed. TCU has egg on its face because of all this. And to think I thought life after the elections was going to be boring.

Yeah, I think this is a case of K-State boosters leaking stuff too early and now they screwed it up. Just like Les Miles and Michigan.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

GP just got on ESPN radio and said if Kansas State calls he probably won’t even pick up the phone because of this.

I was thinking along those lines as well. I think Patterson would be crazy to take the K-State job, but you have to wonder why this would be posted in the first place if there wasn't at least something going on.

If I were guessing and that is all I am doing, I would imagine it was kind of like the Jones deal with SMU. "Leave me alone while I am on my run to the BCS. Afterwards we can finalize the deal." The when TCU lost some over anxious booster determined that since BCS was no longer in the picture the deal was done.
or
It was a Dan Rather report.

From the Star Telegram:
Patterson staying at TCU Contrary to recent reports, TCU head coach Gary Patterson is not leaving to go to Kansas State.
I just got done talking with Patterson in his office at TCU, and he said the reports are not true.
"I'm not real happy with people who fire people before the season is over," Patterson said. "And I would be less happy with anybody who would ever talk about taking another job until they finish their own"
Check back for more details.

Oh, like that never happens.
Perhaps that should read: less happy with anyone who would spill the beans before a candidate coach finishes their own.
