Question for you: when is a year just a "building" year vs. a "rebuilding" year, given that we haven't "built" anything in quite a while?

great question. every year is a building year for SMU...i guess that would be the answer

Figured it was worth a laugh to ask it, since I am now going to drink myself to sleep.

We need to try to win next year and that means 7-8 jucos need to be signed in december. will jj/smu do it?

We should have showed an 8 man front and made memphis throw the football. instead we played a base defense and allowed memphis to run it down our throat in the first two series. Regardless our defense played well enough to keep us in the game. Had we made a few more plays in the fourth quarter we are in a position to win. Memphis was playing with three dlineman and one linebacker in the fourth quarter. On third and three at Memphis 20 yard line, we should have kept going with Mckinney until they stopped him or changed their d makeup.

I'm getting the impression that June Jones is all about X's and O's (offensively, of course) and doesn't really care much for, or have an understanding of, game management and clock management. From what I've seen this season, his goal is to have an offense so good that there's no need for strategy or game management. Or defense, for that matter.
And forget Justin Willis. Look at how well Logan Turner performed in a difficult situation - especially after being banished on the depth chart below two incoming freshmen. If Turner had been named the starter at the beginning of the season, as logic would dictate being as he was the only scholarship QB in the spring, this season might not have been the complete abomination it's turned into.
Not that Turner is the savior or anything. Absolutely not. But he would have given the offense a chance to get some stability until Bo Levi was ready to take over at some point in the season.
And not to knock Bo Levi, but I have yet to see why June Jones has such a man crush on him. Not that Bo Levi isn't good, but even accepting that he's a true freshman and isn't surrounded by a lot of experience or talent, I haven't seen whatever it is that June Jones sees in him. I keep looking for something that tells me he's special, but I haven't seen it yet. He's pretty good for a freshman who didn't go through spring, but I just haven't seen whatever it is that garners such devotion from June. Of course, I'm not a coach, either.

OR they ran it because they were trying to set up a play to the opposite side (Robinson was lined up on the opposite side) such that a successful run or two to the right would force the DB facing Robinson to turn his hips in instead of square with Aldrick. Unfortunately, the right tackle for SMU (not Chase...he was out) could not turn in their DE; therefore, running the ball got bupkus.
However, remember, there were two passing plays that did occur at 3rd & 7 and 3rd & 4 on the first two series; I believe that McJunkin snapped the ball up over BLM's head. I don't mean to shoulda, coulda, woulda, but those miscues early put SMU into a hole.
The 6' 8" receiver was not covered well. However, if a safety had been freed up to cover instead of helping the run defense, Banjo could have drifted over to double cover him. Might not have helped, but it might have forced the QB's timing off.
The interior d-line simply got whipped. We haven't had a consistent interior d-line with experienced depth since Haywood and Bond, and we didn't have experienced depth then. Memphis RBs were into the linebackers almost the minute they touched the ball. To SMU's credit, Memphis only broke a couple of long ones, but death by a thousand cuts is every bit as effective as the big play.
Hopefully, these injuries aren't bad and SMU can play out the next couple of game as wins.
