Donald Massey update

Postby Buddha » Fri May 16, 2003 4:40 pm

The last I've seen, the 5-11, 175-pound speedster is keeping things open, with SMU even with Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, TCU and Baylor

From all reports, his speed is truly special. He NEEDS to follow his brother to SMU.

Couldn't agree more. Richuel and Donald Massey at SMU could be huge part of the Mustangs breaking out of the pack. We have to sign Donald.

One very big question is going to be whether Richuel can come right in and earn playing time ahead of KK, ShanD & Fitz. He might not be happy if he's asked to redshirt, or he might like the fact that would mean he has more time to earn his degree and he and his brother could possibly play together for 4 yrs (assuming younger bro can come in and play right away). I would expect big brother's influence is going to depend on how enjoyable Richuel's 1st year experience might be.

Right. From what he said in the Recruiting Roundup on ponyfans.com, it sounds like Richuel expects to come in and play right away. You don't want an injury to decide his fate, of course, but if he's not happy in his first year, you have to think our chances with his brother would slip.

I had not heard that Shan D. was not returning but never have been told he is BACK to par. I thought in the back of my mind that something was up.
Thats too bad because I thought he was a great runner!!

Richuel's got to use his big brother influence to get Donald to follow him to SMU. Coach Gush recruited Richuel, so I assume he's got a good relationship with the Hillsboro coach. That's got to help.
