Dream DE?

Postby Buddha » Fri May 16, 2003 4:46 pm

OK, we're not on his list, but consider the idea of this guy coming off the edge:

DE Darnell Jackson (6-9, 235) of Oklahoma City (Northwest Classen), Okla., likes Illinois, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Purdue. He averaged 18 points and 16 boards in basketball as a senior.

Line him up next to Darrin Johnson, and the QB would have a hell of a time seeing his receivers on that side. It would be great if the Mustangs can make their way on to his list.

DJ will never get to play DT unless there is a bust with the normal D-line guys...DJ is a o-tackle and will be a great one...

I disagree - I thought he looked very good in the spring (scrimmages and practices), especially since it was his first crack at the DT spot. I'm not saying he'll start or anything, but he looked like he has the makings of a very good DT at some point.

With that said, I think he also could be a very strong offensive tackle.
I really shouldn't drink and type.

Johnson will never get to play? He was first-team through the spring, started in the scrimmages (certainly in the Red/Blue Game, and I think the other scrimmages, too) and the coaches seemed to be more than pleased with his progress and his potential. That gave me the impression he'll not only play, but he might well start in this, his redshirt freshman year.

Why do you think he won't play? Just curious
