The suspension may not affect the results, but it will give some kids a lot more playing time. We are in future build mode and the more kids that get significant experience the better.
Also, the kids have seen what happens to suspended players (Willis) and there may be more surprises to come from these suspensions.
Glad Junes is imposing his program and expectation and not allowing the kids to push him around. It will pay dividends down the road.
Ponyte,
He is on a 5-year leash.
Year 1 - disaster
Year 2 - we can always hope for a 3 or 4 win season
Year 3 - I don't think the current talent on this team with the class he is bringing in makes us a .500 team
Year 4 - ????....but Stalllion says our recruiting class is C-USA "average"
Year 5- ALL IN!!!
Year 6 - back to Hawaii

Assuming we continue to have less than stellar recruiting classes, then we need all the experience we can get. Experience can't overcome 3exceptional talent but it can help kids to decrease mistakes (both stupid penalties and blown coverages) as well as an edge on reading keys, defenses, alignments, etc. Improvements in the above mention areas and we do rise to the level or mediocre. Once we are mediocre, then Jones may have a shot at considerable better talent.
We have such a long and hard road to travel before we can be a winning program. To do so, we must take advantage of all possible areas of improvement including experience.
And once we have improved experience, we may still suck. That is a risk we face each and every year. Until we win, that will continue to be our barrier to success.
Perhaps some kids get a little experience and knowledge of the speed and complexity of the game. And a taste of playing so in the spring, there is more completion for positions and improved depth. It is just a possibility and we may still suck. Just trying to find that silver lining around the cow patty we always seem to have in our way.

2010 is a big year for Jones in my mind. Here is roughly what we will be running out.
QB Bo Levi Mitchell JR
RB Butler/Lunday/Lee SR/JR/JR
WR Aldrick Robinson SR
WR Cole Beasley JR
WR Terrence Wilkerson JR
WR Cole Loftin/Haynes JR/JR
OL Kelvin Beachum JR
OL Bryce Tennison JR
OL Black McJunkin/Fontana JR/SO
OL Josh LeRibues/???? JR
OL Jordan Free/J.T. Brooks JR/JR
DE Youri Yenga SR
DT Marquis Frazier JR
DT Evan Huahalu JR
DE Taylor Thompson/Sowe JR/SR
LB Victor Jones/??? JR
LB Justin Smart/Odiari JR/SR
LB Julian Herron/??? JR
CB Derrius Bell SR
CB Keith Robinson JR
FS Chris Banjo/Tyler Jones JR/SR
SS De'Von Bailey/James Scott SR/SO
Now that's a hell of alot of guys who will have two-plus years experience as starters. If we can't manage to compete for the C-USA crown or at least a bowl bid, then I think there is serious reason to hit the panic button.
Back off Warchild seriously.

If I recall correctly, in PB's last season at a very successful K-State program, there were 56 players on that team that came from the non-traditional JC/CC route.
If done correctly, you do not have to wait 3 or 4 years to improve your talent base.
I am fed up with us doing it the 'right' way. Given our track record....it is clearly the 'wrong' way.

Which brings to mind Odiari. He has not played since Tulane and I could not find him on the sidelines Staurday. Is he still on the team?

I hope he's better than that. As everyone's hero Dale Hansen said, if Jones can't get it done at SMU nobody can, and he's right.
If Jones doesn't turn it around we need to seriously consider dropping down a division or two.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

There is no point in playing football if it isn't DI-A. Win or quit.

Yeah if we can't get it done at D1A then is zero point of having a football program. If we can't find a way to get it done in the next 10 years it might be time to consider throwing in the towel on this thing.

We'd have the nicest D-2 stadium in the land and all of the best D-2 quality players would want to come to SMU. We'd be instantly good again.

Being the winner of the "Over 35% Body Fat" spring competition is not a real award!
AND, once we drop down, the administration will deceide to half-ass that too, so we'll just be bad DII team.
