Turner Gill and Buffalo Clinch Division/Bowl

Postby Stallion » Thu Nov 13, 2008 11:11 pm

6-4 with a 1 game lead in their division and 2 to play and tie breaker against No. 2 after a 4 OT victory over Akron tonite. Division winner gets automatic bowl bid if bowl eligible and Buffalo is. Scratch off one more of what about 2-3 teams in D1A who have not been to a bowl since SMU. Gill has done an absolutely outstanding job at what was very recently considered the worst job in D1A

how does their recruiting stack up the last few yrs?
does he have any talent? aside from Duke and Idaho, SMU has to be the worst team in CFB history.

Obviously that honor now belongs to SMU.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Really seeting himself up for a huge payoff either this year or next. Gill is an outstanding recruiter and very good coach.

He has recruited very well. There are kids at Buffalo today that prior coaches could only dream of having in that program.

If it is cool with you, I am going to add your above quote to your quote about Bennett being a good coach and that Hawaii has a recruiting advantage to your greatest hits.

I believe Gill was a rumored name mentioned for the SMU job over the years. I would have traded him for Bennett in a heartbeat. I bet Gill would really recruit the D/FW area well. I would not be surprised to see TCU make a run at him if Patterson leaves.

And in related news, Rice is currently 7-3 and will be going to their 2nd bowl in three years. Unbelievable.

If Patterson left, this guy would be top of my list.

Pretty poor, except for that great 2006 blue chip class

Turner Gill at Nebraska won an award for being the No. 1 recruiter in the country-there are no questions about his recruiting ability. It ain't easy to recruit for BUFFALO-the worst program in the country when he arrived. As I've said and shown many times there are all kinds of ways of building a program around the recruiting services ratings that never show in those ratings.
