I love the way these webmasters are on top of what's going on with SMU sports...good job guys!!!
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Way to go, coaches!
Keep up the great work. Vincent Chase sounds like he was being recruited coast to coast, and to keep him home at SMU .... job well done!

stallion.. i do love the way you keep the water in motion! from a stictly one on one personal basis, bennett, and his staff, are head and shoulders above the caven regime with the high school coaches here in texas. what a great pick-up this tightend is... now, can we keep him. if you think the battle is over you are sooo wrong. the big boys will be after him now stronger than before.

ESPN.com's Tom Lemming considers Chase among the top 25 in what he (Lemming) calls a very strong class of tight ends.

The Class of 2004 is loaded with good tight ends, but Arizona's Zach is the clear No. 1 going into the season. There will be many changes Signing Day, but keep an eye on these prep tight ends. As I travel around the country looking for talent, I will continue to update the list. Check back to see who drops out, drops down or moves up the list.

Player Ht., Wt. City (High School), St. College
1. Zach Miller 6-4, 235 Tempe (Desert Vista), Ariz.
2. Kellen Davis 6-6, 225 Adrian, Mich.
3. Chris Rogers 6-3, 235 Wexford (N. Allegheny), Pa.
4. Ryan Baker 6-6, 230 Indianapolis (Chatard), Ind.
5. Brandon Ledbetter 6-6, 215 Hollywood Hills, Fla
6. Trent Davidson 6-5, 240 Brewton (Miller), Ala.
7. DeMarcus Winston 6-6, 230 Little Rock (Parkview), Ark.
8. Dale Thompson 6-5, 250 Corona (Santiago), Calif.
9. Travis McCall 6-2, 235 Prattville, Ala.
10. David DiFranco 6-5, 245 Grafton (Midview), Ohio
11. Hugh D'Imperio 6-5, 230 Sewell (Washington Township), N.J.
12. Justin Jackson 6-3, 245 Lucedale (George Co.), Miss.
13. Phillip Merling 6-6, 240 St. Matthews (Calhoun Co.), S.C.
14. Dane Guthrie 6-4, 250 Miami (Columbus), Fla.
15. Mike Sabers 6-5, 230 Iowa City, Iowa
16. Nate Johnson 6-4, 240 Lakewood (Lakes), Wash.
17. Tim Casey 6-6, 220 Longview, Texas

18. Chris Smith 6-5, 240 Allen, Texas -- TEXAS A&M

19. Anthony Vernaglia 6-4, 220 Orange (Lutheran), Calif.

a couple of things jump out at me. Both UT and A$M have top 25 guys commited...that certainly helps us...and the photo up above says the Chase "brotherS" commit. Does this mean we already have a JUCO commitment?

There are websites out there that are reporting Vincent's brother Bobby has committed also.
Can anyone confirm?

By the way, there's at least one website out there that lists Chase as a national 4-star TE. Who's the last player we signed with that kind of rep? Sterling Harris? Marcus Mosley? Or do we have to look back to the mid-1980s?

FYI, here is a comparison of the Tight ends that SMU, UT, and A&M have recruited thus far:

H W 40 bench squat vert
The UT guy: 6'4" 233 4.86 260 350 27
Interest: BC, Iowa, K St, LSU
A&M

The A&M guy:6'4 245 4.72 --- --- ---
Interest: BC, Iowa St,
Nebraska, Rice

The SMU guy:6'5 243 4.70 295 375 30
Offers: Florida, K State, LSU,
Oklahoma, Nebraska,
Syracuse, Wisconsin

Our guy is stronger, taller, faster, and more athletic than the UT guy, and our guy's list of schools interested is a lot bigger. Take it for what it's worth, but those are some serious stats and serious interest levels.

well. Bobby is commited to SMU so there are two commits on the table. Another thing to think about is when chris hall comes to smu their will be six pairs of brothers including the coaches phil and jerry. But Bobby will surprise people in the future when they see how good he can catch. He will be one of the best that comes through SMU.

Six brother acts?

Phil and Jerry Bennett
Vincent and Bobby Chase
Zach and Chris Hall
Sterling Harris and D.D. Johnson (OK, that's a reach - they're stepbrothers and will be gone when Chris Hall arrives....)
Hopefully Richuel and Donald Massey

Who else?

And I guess this means Bobby Chase's commitment to the Ponies is official?

Best hands ever seen... Yes, that's pretty high praise from wardog. But those sentiments were also echoed by David Beatty, the Head Coach of Irving MacArthur (a district rival).

So although our expectations of any freshman should be tempered with a heavy dose of reality (after all, almost all our players were "the best" in high school), suffice it to say this kid won't drop many.
