Stayed at the Hilton next to the campus, great place, friendly staff, and you can walk to the stadium. Unique setting for a college football game in the state of Texas, stadium cut into the mountains, very cool. We had a number of chances in the first half to make it interesting, but blew them as usual. UTEP knew we didn't have any speed at reciever, so their corners played bump and run, and both of their safties were so close to the line of scrimmage, they almost looked like linebackers. I don't think they threw a single pass Bryan McCann's way all night. Deyon ("I don't get beat deep, period") McElroy, was abused early and often. Chris Butler dressed, but didn't play. Beasly dropped at least 3 passed, and Zimmerman dropped 2 or 3 as well. We stopped them TWICE on 4th down. I was encouraged, to see us play hard until the final gun, when some teams would have mailed it in at this point.

Well, I did mention the two 4th down stops!
Thought Taylor Thompson had some bright moments at de. LB Chace Kennemer played pretty well, and he may be the hardest hitter we have on defense. Torlan Pittman got his first start at DT, and seemed to hold his own. Our d-line got some pretty good pressure, on their elusive qb. Does anyone know who blocked the punt for us? Frank Gansz is going to be mad, that McKinney fell on the blocked punt, instead of picking it up and scoring. Justin Willis had two fumbles, one was on UTEP's 5 yard line. JW was holding the ball under his right arm, with defenders approaching from the goal-line, he should have had it in his left instead. His fumble on the punt, was probably not all his fault, it was just another SMU keystone cops moment. Oh, and it was good to have the great RGV Pony sitting with us!

Thanks for the report. I did think that our D made some good stops but must have been very disheartened by the fact that our O could not generate anything. First and goal at the 6! Come on.
I just hope over the next two weeks the lads make the decision to dig deep and believe for one last game.

igualmente.
One other thing about the defense. I think we have some pretty good things to look forward to. Now this is a stretch, and doesn't compare the entire body of work, but if one looks at Taylor Thompson at this point in his freshman year and compares that to Justin Rogers at the same point, as well as Chris Banjo: Joe Sturdivant, I think there are things to look forward to.

Can our two dog house receivers please go apologize and beat themselves or something to get on the field for the last game? The fans of this season, and of this program, deserve to have a shot at the last game.
Orsini - if you are reading this - please intervene. Just throw your best customers a bone please.

UTEP was only 4 of 17 on 3rd and 4th Downs-so there were more than that. Why do you think they kicked 5 FGs. Actually that ain't a bad stat.

Even 4 of 14 is outstanding for this team's performance this year...
Sad but true...

Take away the turnovers and SMU would probably have made a game out of it.

Forgot to mention, I sat with Kris Adams father on the flight home. Adams is the reciever that had 145 yards, and three touchdowns against us. His father said, Kris was 6'2 185, ran a 4.4, and an honor roll student coming out of high school. Said Kris would have loved to stay near his home in Everman, (Ft Worth area) but, UTEP was his ONLY D-1 offer.
