Stumping the Schwab

Postby KnuckleStang » Wed Nov 19, 2008 3:09 pm

I was at an event this past Sunday in Stamford, CT, and the Schwab (from that old ESPN show "Stump the Schwab") was there. He was being employed by the hosts to let people try to stump him with sports questions. Folks were lining up and he was wiping the floor with them. The guy is seriously really good. Towards the end, I went up and said I got a good question for you Schwab, what 5 SMU grads are in the NFL Hall of Fame. His eyes glazed over. Then he reeled off Walker, Dickerson, and Gregg. At which point he got stuck, and started insisting Kyle Rote is in the HOF. I said sorry that's wrong. He didn't believe me, and I'm pretty sure he still doesn't believe me. I said ok, I'll give you that one, even though its wrong (because I knew he wouldn't get Lamar Hunt in the end). When he finally gave up and I told him Raymond Berry, I felt almost bad because of the visible pain on his face, and when I told him Lamar Hunt, he laughed and said "no fair, that was a trick question." I guess he was right about that, not fair to ask about an owner.

Congrats on Stumping the Schwab. Not a trick question either. Lamar Hunt is an SMU grad and former football player at SMU. Much was made of his SMU roots when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Ha ha - Yeah I guess more like 2003 or 04, it was an Ole Miss jersey. Technically a throwback? maybe not
