Eagles already focused on SMU

HATTIESBURG — The game at SMU may still be 10 days away, but the Southern Miss football team has already started looking closely at the Mustangs.

The Golden Eagles watched film of SMU (1-10) on Tuesday before the team's practice. The Mustangs are allowing 490 yards a game, but the USM offense says it isn't taking the June Jones-coached team for granted.

"They're a good unit all the way around," said Cameron Zipp, USM's starting center. "They've had some ups and downs. I saw a couple of games where they only lost by a couple of points. They're a good team that's going to fight for all four quarters. With a play here or there, things can completely change. They're a good little team like the teams we've faced every week."

The Eagles will practice today and take three days off before getting back to work on Sunday. "It's the same as every week," Zipp said. "We're taking it one week at a time and even though we don't have a game on Saturday, we'll practice like we do."

Appears that Southern Miss is using the build 'em up before crushing technique!

Confidence.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I hope Serge Elizee reminds him of that quote when he knocks the hell out of him next Saturday.
