Very exciting. As Lou Holtz said last nite-any spread or run and shoot offense can move the ball and get receivers open for catches-the great teams are great because they have receivers who can get yards after catches. Johnson fills that definition and should really have an outstanding career at SMU in this offense.

To reiterrate what was said above-this is a HUGE game tonite-probably the biggest in the entire State of Texas-tough draw for Hightower playing North Shore so early in the Playoffs-should be plenty of coverage on this one on the usual High School Highlites Show. Below is an except from Texas Football
REGION IIII PREMIER GAME
Galena Park North Shore (9-0) vs. Fort Bend Hightower (9-0)
7:30 p.m. Friday, Pasadena's Memorial Stadium

This is Take 2 for a Hightower team looking to make amends for last year's playoff dismissal, a 33-9 loss to North Shore in the Region III finals. And despite losing 12 starters, 25 of its 47 lettermen, and the head coach of last year's 10-4 team, Hightower appears better equipped this time around to handle a team of North Shore's caliber. None of Hightower's games this season have been in doubt in the fourth quarter, not even the season-opener against Aldine Eisenhower. Hightower led that game 28-14 after three quarters and sealed up a win on a 53-yard touchdown run three minutes into the fourth quarter. Eisenhower is no North Shore (as we learned when North Shore beat Eisenhower, 33-14, the following week), but a common opponent with common results serves up one piece of evidence North Shore and Hightower are on an even standing.
Second piece of evidence: only twice since that first game of '08 has Hightower given up more than 10 points in a game. And on those two occasions, Hightower outscored the opponent by at least 21 points. Sure Hightower hasn't played a difficult schedule, but its defense doesn't mess around. That leads me to believe Hightower can win this game in any style -- a shootout or a defensive struggle. Nevertheless, give me North Shore on a late, game-winning drive.
Padilla Poll says: North Shore by 6
Jerry's TXFB Ratings says: North Shore by 5
TexasFootball.com says: North Shore 30, Hightower 27

Houston Chronicle is covering this game with play by play on its blog-and Hightower looking good 20-7 in 2nd Quarter. Darius Johnson scored on a 10 yard TD for the first points.

see he fits SMU's scheme better than the most of the Big Boys-except maybe Texas Tech. A 5-9 or 5-10 Inside receiver is fine in the Run and Shoot. The BIG BOYS often won't touch them. He could put up some big numbers in SMU's offense-hope he realizes that opportunity.

Thanks for the updates Stallion. And for all the other recruit/playoff updates on our recruits.

Final Stats for Johnson-5 catches for 58 yards and the 21 yard TD catch. I'm pretty sure he had at least a couple of nice runs but they didn't show up in the abbreviated stats.
