apparently some of you only post the good news but for those that don't have Rivals a story several days ago by the Baylor affiliate suggests that SMU will likely have some difficulty in getting a commitment from Donald Massey. He denies that SMU is necessarily a favorite by stating "They made a big deal about it(brother's commitment), but it doesn't mean that much much to me. I want to go where I can play early and be on TV." Massey reports 12 offers including SMU, Baylor, K-St., Notre Dame, Houston, Ga. Tech, Arkansas, Tulsa, Texas Tech, Utah and Rice. He is quoted also as saying a Big Factor will be that he wants to play on grass.

Its unfortunate that playing w/ his brother isn't going to be a factor in landing him. However, it just means we're gonna have to change our strategy on his recruitment. There are other ways to recruit him other than throwing family guilt on him. Also, didn't you say Stallion that artificial grass is the favorite surface of NFL players? wasn't that you? wonder why he is so in love w/ grass.

yes the NFL Players Association has endorsed it as their favorite playing surface.

When interviewing Richuel in preparation for the PonyFans.com Recruiting Roundup, he told me that his brother "will go wherever I go," and said that he fully expected his brother to be recruited by everyone in the country, but said that they are close enough that their relationship will override other factors.
Who knows whether that will pan out, but Richuel is working on Donald now to get him (Donald) to join his brother at SMU.

I think that Donald needs to see the facilities, coaches and most of all a WINNING record. Sure he would like to play on the same GOOD team with his brother but he is 18.... TV, Big school, Exposure.
Go SMU and win on the field and Donald will come.
He needs to be happy here not just because of family guilt.

Tell him we're going to be the 12th team in the ACC, with all the TV/bowl benefits.

Of the schools that have offered, only Ark, Baylor, GT, Hou, and ND play on grass. The rest play on artificial. He is eliminating a lot of schools if grass is that important.

Very good point. Maybe he'll re-think that side of the decision.
