attributed to BLM in Saturday's DMN:
When asked how the Mustangs, who trailed, 7-6, at the half, let another winnable game slip away, freshman quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell gave a blunt assessment of the team – and a remedy for the future.
"I think there's too many people that are OK with losing, and we have to get rid of that," Mitchell said. "That's what the off-season is for; to weed those types of people out, and the people that are here to win are here to stay. A lot of people just really honestly need to step up and say, 'Let's go win a ball game.'"
I say disturbing because it is disturbing to me that there are people on a football team that are "OK with losing." It is disturbing that more than one person ("too many people") apparently have this mentality.
Who are these people? What can JJ do to weed them off the team?
I'm glad this mentality does not affect PonyFans.

you win 2 games in 2 years and i think you get pretty used to losing. nice that we have young guys in there that maybe won't be so complacent.

can't remember the last home game I went to where I had laughter and smiles afterward. That sickens me.

I absolutely hate losing, so I don't understand how guys can laugh and smile after a game like that. Even when I have been on teams that weren't very competitive, my teammates and I gave it all we had and were disappointed if we didn't come out on top. Unbelievable.

I don't get too down on the players, the season is over and you have lost another one, not such a big deal after losing 10 others.
Was the final game of the year, I would be happy it was over as well.
Saying that we lost 11 games this year because the players have a bad attitude or are "used" to losing is in the same ball park as saying we lost because the crowd didn't cheer loud enough when we were down by 20.
We didn't have the talent at 99 percent of the positions to compete with who we played against.

It's cliche, but if you expect to lose it is impossible to win. I don't think it's a coincidence that SMU is in so many games from halftime into the 3rd quarter and then simply fades away. That's not a talent problem and I hope not a physical fitness problem. It's a mental problem, an expectation of failure. Let's hope JJ weeds out those players with that mentality, that comfort with losing. JJ needs to have his players watch some Tiger Woods tapes to see how much he hates losing and how much each loss makes him want to win that much more. And with that attitude SMU should want to win pretty bad.

So does this mean we can expect to take yet another step back while we weed out the bad attitudes currently on the team? Don't get me wrong, I think changing the culture is part of turning this thing around, but what if some of those bad attitudes include keys guys like #17 and #24? Just using them as hypotheticals, but if weeding out the bad attitudes means getting rid of some of the talent we actually have around here, then that's a scary thought. In the long run it benefits the program, but it might mean yet another setback in the here and now.

Must be nice to get a 40K a year education for free. We are paying June 2mil. a season to hold these kids accountable and get the most out of them by winning games. If he has to suspend/expell/dismiss multiple players from the team then thats what has to be done. I'm glad Bo Levi is showing that he cares and wants to be a winner. He was thrown out to the wolves and performed admirably under some pretty outlandish circumstances.
Back off Warchild seriously.

This is what I've been talking about when I said earlier in the year when Jones had to turn this whole thing inside out. This was part of that.
Your program isn't going to be worth anything if you don't have everything internally moving in the same direction.

Instead of pointing fingers at other players, leadership means setting the example, like - "I'm sick of losing and I am going to do whatever it takes to win and I want all those who are willing, to join me."
and maybe that is what he meant.

Go Ponies!! Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
