Two coaching graveyards?

Postby RGV Pony » Mon Dec 01, 2008 7:42 pm

New Mexico State fired Hal Mumme today. This may not be SMU related, but here was a head coach (albeit with some skeletons) from a BCS school with a high-flying offense brought in to turn around a program. Of course, he was fired, like the guy before him, and the guy before him, and the guy before him.

Which place is more snakebit?

NMSU is located in Las Cruces, NM (translation: The Crosses)

Heck, NMSU is already a graveyard because of the name of the town where it's located! End of discussion.

yeah, it's a hole. But they had some great years in bball. I actually went to a game there that had to be one of the five best bball games I've ever seen. It was either big Monday or a Saturday night. UNLV. NMSU won with a 12-foot bank shot made by future Bull Randy Brown at the buzzer. UNLV won the national title that year, IIRC. The students in the place were crazy...they had a tradition (long since snuffed out by the administration) of chanting "nice shot a##hole after a made freethrow by an opponent.
