What happened to the following players/recruits?This may have been answered, and I don't recall the answer...but I am asking anyway.
What happened to...? 1. Kyle DeGroat (Dallas Carter) 2. Daniel Miller (Lake Highlands) 3. Chase Smith (Flower Mound) And where did the following players come from? 1. Jesse Andrews 2. Justin Padron (Kyle's brother?) 3. Matt Symanski And to anyone's knowledge, is SMU receiving any enrolled recruits that were/are not on the radar (greyshirts, transfers, or otherwise) in January? DeGroat and Smith are done, they will be medical casualties.
Symanski is a tranfer punter and kicker from A&M. Kyle is Justin's brother, and Justin is a walkon transfer from nts.
Syzmanski is a FG Specialist-or at least that is what he primarily did at A&M, but at SMU at least he hopes to handle both Punting and Kicking according to this article

I am not trying to zing anybody...I was just wondering. I couldn't recall the stories on these guys. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
I counted a total attrition of nearly 25% over the last four classes from signing day to now. I didn't do a vintage snapshot, but just guessing, I think the attrition level was rising by class. That makes sense as it became increasingly questionable and then inevitable that Bennett was out the door, but it is interesting to me to see that level of inconsistency year to year. Not only does recruiting get more difficult w/ each season of successive losses, but retention puts the team further in a hole w/ each successive career-ending injury or academic issue.
I never thought of attrition as a reason that SMU struggled; however, it clearly is...perhaps as much as anything else. What is a normal attrition rate by class for a school (BCS or otherwise)? "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
I recall SMU orientation officials advising parents of in coming frosh that the national stastic of 45% of all freshman will leave their original college choice within the first 3 semesters. Hopefully, our athletes will have more motive to stick around than the general population;however, this is an amazing stastic and will also impact athletes.
i"ll be fair and balanced
his immediate impact will be felt on kickoffs
that is a huge advantage for any team
Ok, so let's break down the field goal numbers from last year: * Seven of eight inside 30 yards. * Six of ten from 30-39 yards. * Two of seven from 40-49. What kind of percentages at each distance are expected from Div I kickers?
They better have no more than 2 misses (if not perfect) between 20-29 yds. Keep in mind those wide hash marks make those kicks somewhat tricky. They better be about 85 percent between 30-39 yards. They better be about 65-75 percent between 40-49 yards
Per the official NCAA stats, he was perfect from inside the 30 (7 of 7). Tied for first in Div I, obviously.
A 6 of 10 from 30-39 yards puts him at 85 of 119 Div. I kickers. And a 2 of 7 from 40-49 puts him at 105 of 119. (Note: Morstead was 0 for 3 at that range). Yep, he needs work from 30 out. ![]()
He needs to be relegated to extra points from TDs. To hell w/ FGs. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
he kicked one 61 yards in the State Championship in High School. At A&M he was reported to have one of the best touchback % in college football-haven't verified. Big leg just needs more accuracy. Was considered perhaps the Top Kicker coming out of high school his Senior year.
He was also on the younger side I believe. And lets face it, for a 17 year old kid to take to Kyle field in front of those Rabid Aggies... I think his brain just rejected the cult. He was spooked by the virgin sacrifices, and obsessed over the figuring out the true meaning of Kanick Kanick. Really, I think he was just overwhelmed by the whole thing and with a fresh start and a smaller, more close knit community he'll be able to figure it out. And if not, well, we do still have Loftus maybe. Hopefully one of them will figure it out. -CoS
