One of rumors coming out of there is that the AD wanted him to fire the staff and Tuberville wouldn't do it. That's what led to this.

Boosters are what forced Tuberville out. It's the same set of boosters who orchestrated the sectret interview with Petrino a few years ago. Auburn's president and AD don't have the stones to control their boosters. They just fired one of the best coaches in the country. He was 7-3 against their arch rival and took them to a 13-0 season. I think the man deserved at least one more year to get things rolling. This will certainly hurt recruiting, and it's going to hit their pocket book pretty hard too. Auburn must pay Tuberville $3 million within the next 30 days and another $3 million within the next year. Seems really dumb to allow a booster to force out such a successful coach and cost the program $6 million in a year.

My guess is that if boosters really demanded Tuberville "resign," they were told to come up with the $6 million themselves. I bet if they orchestrated this, Auburn doesn't lose a nickel as he departs.

SportsCenter mentioned Patterson, Graham and Leach, and said Auburn has reached out to Petrino (dude really needs to stay put for a few years) before learning that Petrino's contract prohibits him from going to another SEC West team.

Sporting News also said not to rule out Houston Nutt.

Petrino was adament this morning about staying at UA. It would be ironic to get Nutt since half of the UA crowd wanted Tuberville when Nutt was hired at UA.

I still think Patterson is the best fit. Auburn is a defensive team by tradition. Yes they need offensive help but I think the culture shock of an offensive minded team might just freak the fans out.

I didn't pay much attention, but I thought Fran did ok for the year or two he was in the SEC.

Alabama

Franchione became the head coach at the University of Alabama in 2001 and led the team, which had posted a 3-8 record the prior season, to a 7-5 record in 2001 and a 10-3 record in 2002. The 2001 team won the Independence Bowl, which became Alabama's first bowl win after five seasons. The 2002 team finished with a 6-2 conference record, placing first in the West Division of the Southeastern Conference. However, due to NCAA sanctions resulting from violations of the previous Alabama head coach, Mike DuBose, the 2002 team was ineligible for postseason games, including the SEC Championship Game. The turnaround success Franchione made prompted Alabama officials to offer Franchione a 10-year contract extension worth $15 million. Franchione, however, did not sign the offer. Following Alabama's victory over the University of Hawaii and the dismissal of Texas A&M head coach R. C. Slocum, Franchione resigned at Alabama and was named head coach at Texas A&M after publicly stating that he would not leave. His decision was influenced by the NCAA sanctions placed on Alabama, which included a two-year bowl ban, the loss of 21 scholarships over three years, and five years probation. Franchione did not return to Alabama after interviewing for the job, instead informing his players of his decision to accept the job at Texas A&M via video teleconference.

What is fascinating is that one of Tuberville's assistants who was out of state recruiting found out he was out of a job when his wife called him and let him know. She had found out from a neighbor. Another assistant coach was in Maryland, I believe, on a recruiting trip and was told by a high school coach at a school where he was visiting. You would think Auburn could have handled it a little better.
