When it comes to limited items (i.e. limited supply of goods and assumes a high demand for that good), then there is the potential to buy that limited item and then sell it at a profit. There may well be a potential buyer that is left out. One sees this all the time in rare items (such as antiques, art, older cars, antebellum homes and such).

However, where there are products that can have a more infinite supply (such as old game films, photos and such that can be reproduced) then moving those items from limited distribution(Heritage Hall sales) to a more broad distribution (ebay) could actually increase exposure and sales. This is a whole selling model.

So there may well be advantages and disadvantages to the MM1965 model.

However, I still don't see where MM1965 is violating any business principles or business ethics. I don't know if any laws are violated or any legal ethical issues are involved. Of course this would be a violation of medical ethics where the rule is buy high and sell lower.

Last year I believe he bought items where there was ample supply

The one other thing I forgot to mention in my hypothetical is that ponyte would much rather his money for the SMU widgets go to support Heritage Hall than to line the pockets of MrMustang.

No there are no business ethics violations here, just that the spirit of the Heritage Hall sale seems to me to be that it is an opportunity for SMU fans to buy things for themselves, not to turn around and sell again. Maybe I'm wrong, but it just rubs me the wrong way.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

MM1965 rubs you the wrong way? I really don't want any more details.
